I'm able to get Visa gift cards from my bank which is suppose to act as a regular debit card. However, I see that some sites decline my card because it is a "gift card" - how do these sites detect it is a gift card? I believe there's a AVS so this is probably not how..
Thanks

The first 6 digits of the gift card (referred to as the BIN number) are an identifier that tells you what bank issued the card and what type of card it is - debit, credit card etc.
Very simple for them to know exactly what card youre using.

Thanks for quick reply! So it not only tells them what bank issued it but also whether it is a gift card or not?
Is there a place I could look up the corresponding values for each type of card? In other words, I see many banks offering many types of prepaid cards so is there a way I can tell if a specific card will be able to be "detected" as a gift card or not?
