There hasn't been a circulating gold coin in the US since the 1800's. If you're referring to the Sacagawea Golden Dollar.. I see those every once in a while in public but those aren't real gold.

In Kuwait,they have vending machines for gold.
In a war torn country where the local currency becomes worthless,retailers woulld have to accept gold or hard currency,say US DOLLARS.
But there are also countefeit US dollars.

I was in China many years ago,the counterfeit Chinese currency is everywhere,they will use a certain pen or slide it under the machine to test it .Some are so crude you dont need a machine.

street peddlers will run into a retail store to use their machine .
I convert some of my US dollars in a bank,they have no way to test it.
I am sure if there are counterfeits now,the quality must have improved.
I have also received counterfeit USPS postal order,grocery store money order in USA,the USPS ones were traced back to London.
They are very good,except the paper is thicker and no watemark,I should have kept some myself instead of turning them OVER to USPS.
iT IS Not too diffcult to do it,they come from some foreign countries where the print shop can print anything

What kind of gold are they selling from the vending machines? Do you mean like a claw machine where you can win a necklace? I'm having a hard time picturing the thing in my mind..

i dont know,all I see is a vending machine.
In HK,the jewelry shop sell 24k gold figurines,and it has live quotes on gold and other metal,it will add a small % for workmanship.
You can also return the figurine you bot from them,also if it is bought from other stores,they will melt them down.

Right.. but the "employers" in Dubai steal the passports from their "employees" and force them to work off arbitrary debts. It's really not kosher what they're doing over there. It's slavery. At best, indentured servitude.

I have been to Dubai - the foreign workers are paid but they are subject to awful attitudes and no benefits, etc. Very catch 22 situation sadly.
