Join the hard way, build it. my 1st ethereum mining rig. I only got 4 rx480 8gb cards on it. Cant get the 5 and 6 to work, z170 chipset sucks for mining. 2nd rig has all 6 rx470s 4gb working.

My 1st rig's cost was too much since I ordered a custom built open air case, in the picture, and I went with rx480 8gb card. My 2nd rig was much cheaper since I went with 6 rx470 4gb card and a $20 shelf from home depot and lots of zip ties. Sorry but I wont say overall cost, thats kinda personal. Its cheaper than you think. Both rigs have 4gb of ram, 60gb SSD, and a intel g3930 cpu.

1st rig gets 101ms/s but I still need to tweak the bios for better power draw and hash rate. 2nd rig is dong about 130mh/s but still need to tweak the bios this week to maybe get over 160mh/s.

1st rig with 4 cards is 625w, 2nd rig with 6 cards is 883w. I just built the 2nd one this weekend so I still need to undervolt and underclock the gpu core for lower power draw. I'm sure I can get the 2nd rig to under 750w.
1st rig is already underclocked and undervolted, I might lower it another 10-25w. But the 4th card might not like it, its the under performer of the bunch.

You could say that with any investment really... Bitcoin, Ethereum, Apple, Google etc.

But its not the end - just find something cheap today that you feel will be worth a lot a few years from now. I would most certainly say ethereum is one of them. Bitcoin - I just dont know how much more it would go, it is very expensive at the moment.

Then there's the entire stock market to look at. Spoilt for choice.

Just read that a couple of analysts predict that Bitcoin could shoot up drastically over the next 8-14 months - all the way of to $4,000. The reasoning being Japan just legitimized the use of it and they expect more countries to follow suit.
Whether or not that actually happens is a different matter.

The builds are going pretty well, I got done with a few this weekend but still having some issues getting more than 4 gpu's on 1 motherboard. The motherboard that I really want comes tomorrow, 5 of them, and 40 gpu's come toward the end of the week.

I agree many stocks are up. But are they are 5 to 10 baggers like many Crypto currencies are at the moment? Big difference in my opinion.
