Tracking says: handed over to customs???? What does this mean?
 

So I never have paid attention to tracking until now a few items I got from china. Tracking says arrived at jfkennedy airport and now says handed over to customs. What does this mean? Are my items f??? or am I still going to get them?

All incoming goods go to customs.

Actually, the goods themselves stay sweating & hot in a bonded area for Customs. The paperwork, aka manifesto, goes to Customs.

A poorly paid clerk gets to look at what is on the papers. Depending on how his date went last night, or whether his Mom made meatloaf again, the fate of the goods is in his sweaty grubby hands. :pop2:

Seriously, the goods need clearance from customs.(Tick a box stuff). Usually happens quickly. I would not panic yet. :juggle:

Lol, but from I recall my items never said handed over to customs only says arrived at airport, then processed through airport, and left airport. This time it says handed over to customs. Im lost. I will wait until the end of the weekend. Man I hope mom made that clerk some good meatloaf. Lol.

Don't sweat it, most of my item that i order from other countries all the time usually says
" handed over to customs " and next day or so,it will say " Release from customs" when i track the item, this can be with " DHL , FEDEX, EMS, UPS, CHINA POST, etc. Note this depends on the type item that you ordered and the quantity. in my case i usually stay within 100 pcs item in small items. When i do order Vero item, am usually very careful about the quantity... never more than 20-50 . But again, for the past 3 years, i have not had any problem with custom holding any of my item, Vero or Not.

But i will be worried if the it says that and it been there more than 2 working days.

do not worry about it too much if your package is not too big and ususally it will get released within a few days .

If your packages stay there more then 1 week,probaly it will be a problem.

We also have a lot of packages moved to USA and they also inbound into custom firstly and then get release very quickly.

How long did your goods say "handed over to customs"? I bought 5 jerseys from China and mine has said that for 1 1/2 days.

Mine said that for 6 days.

last time a package of mine said handed to customs...

that was the last of it

seized...gone....disappeared.....vanished......

maybe these packages that said handed to customs,were nearly seized..but got released for some reason

Mr GTB sorry man, that sucks! I was sure my goods were gone. I just found out today 4 days in that my package was RELEASED from customs. What a relief. Thanks for your response Kang. It seems to be luck from what I have gathered.

yeah i think that customs may have been handed the packages by the courier maybe when it said "handed to customs"

then customs released them,but not mine

Yeah in the UK, when the Parcel Force website says Handed Over to Customs and shows as delivered it basically means it's gone forever and seized .

I don't know about US system though ;)

I once had a new supplier from China send me items and arrived to LAX,
Items never cleared Customs :mad2:. Now I have them sent to a different location and from then on no problems :clap:. I have had some of my packages kinda opened from a corner but nothing major.

This message is usually for HK EMS and China EMS.

Not if they inspect it.

Fooling around with lasers? You need proper documentation for that kind of power.
