Charity shops in the UK
 

Hello,

I noticed a few people on here buy from thrift stores

I dont think we have them in the UK but we have charity shops
Basically a registered charity sets up shops and flogs donations
(the staff are all volunteers by the way)

My mum works at one (o x f a m) and came up with something interesting

They are not allowed to sell tools, or knives or anything which could be a weapon
Nor are they allowed to sell videos/dvd's/music which could have violent or have sexual content (im not sure on the specifics on this)

So whats my point,
They throw them out!

Well im a bit of a diyer and you never know what good tools people throw away, which could be worth money, especially some retro tools

anyway,
Someone could approach a store and offer to take them off their hands
Remember they are not allowed to sell these items so you could not give them money.
In the short term paying them a small amout would seem right, but you would get them in trouble with head office etc.
So you could get a waste tranfer license or write a waste transfer note?
Or whatever is needed to get them that way, you would have to approach the manager and own a business I think.

you would atleast get your money back through scrap!

Good idea though. Personally I like the Romanian Gypsies idea the best, they go around London delivering "charity sacks" to people's houses inviting them to fill them with unwanted loot to help orphaned monkeys are something.

In fact they just sell the lot, then return to Romania buy a pimp palace and live like a boss.

ive been trying to look at this whole thrift and antiques section aswell.

As we dont have thrift stores here you reckon us lot here could go to sunday markets or them vintage antique markets to find the kind of stuff sandy and others make great profit on?

have your phone on you to google what it is you are about to buy. The problems is the markets and charity shops google things too and price accordingly...years ago you could get a real bargain ...
