Buying bedding and/or towels from China?
 

Is it safe?

Would you buy bedding or towels from China?

I see some that I REALLY want to buy on TaoBao.

I ask this because I remember seeing articles about something along the lines of unhealthy materials or chemicals being used in Chinese products. Especially considering that I'd be sleeping in this bedding every night, and using these towels to wash my face & what not, I'd want to know if they're just as good or safe as ones I'd be getting from Target or Wal-Mart. Or am I just being paranoid? lol

Of course I'd wash anything before sleeping in it or using it lol

Years ago I purchased a pair of real leather blue shoes.

Had a scratch on my instep. Feet got wet in a bad rain storm. Whole foot got infected from the dye in the leather.

Part of the components were bacteria. (that sort.)
Spent 15 days in hospital on IV antibiotics.

No chance I would buy towels. Never.

Well whatever you buy at a Wal-Mart/Target or wherever chances are they're made in China anyways so...

Unless those companies inspect all their products and make sure it's safe to use before putting them up for sale, unlike if you bought it straight from a manufacturer. I don't know though, from my experience though, all the clothes I've ever had that was made in China which is probably a lot, never really did any harm to me.

Research the company and ask for samples first to assess. While many things come from China these days. there are many things that DO not make it to our marketplace due to dangerous health concerns.

The best thing to do is to buy a sample order and see the quality of the product. I've purchased blankets (by the Container) but had done a lot of research about the company and their product. I was lucky that a family member was living in China so I had paid them to check out the factory and other task.

Anyone who uses Taobao - Communicating with sellers?
 

Looking to buy some things on Taobao and so far it's been a little difficult communicating. I've used a Taobao agents before however I can't really do that in this case. So far I was able to communicate a potential discount depending on how many I buy, and I was offered a nice deal if I did. I've tried asking for their e-mail but for some reason I can't get it lol. It seems like they want me to communicate using the crappy live chat on Taobao.

For anyone here who uses/has used Taobao - how do you find it communicating? Would an english to chinese translator work? I know that for most languages, the outcome of the translation is often sloppy :(

Taobao sellers prefer to use wangwang (or chinese trade manager) , it often helps to have a history in there in case buyer opens up case against seller.

The only way is to download trademanager, and hope they'll add you.
or create a taobao account, and download ali wang wang and communicate as every buyer in china does.

I've looked at Taobao sellers and I've always found their prices a bit high and not too willing to sell to USA buyers.

i think bedding and towels will have a very high price on shipping in case you plan to dropship. you need to import them as cargo rather than getting them in couriers. there are several taobao agents on web. they can help you to buy from taobao

The bedding/towels was going to be a personal purchase. Not something I'd be selling. I won't be getting it anymore though.



Yeah some prices are extremely high. (Depends on what you're looking for I guess) I asked if I could buy in wholesale from this one seller and he/she said they could give me 30% off for buying the amount I said I'd be buying each month. Aside from that, everything else was pretty hard to communicate across, especially when I tried to ask about specific details

That tends to be exactly what happens.

Problems in communication with sellers happens .

It becomes difficult to get a deal going.

Technically, you're supposed to wash ALL linen you get from the store before wearing/using it. So go ahead and buy your stuff, just run it through a light washer cycle first.

Just ask for samples - proper sellers will happily oblige - the cost of doing business.

Then they cannot be sold as new. Have to sold a used.

Walmart and big box stores spend time and money to make sure their imports are safe and pass laws.

When you get it directly from the factory, there's no standard. Throw in all the lost of translation and communication and you have no idea what you're getting.

I wouldn't bother.

My ex girlfriend got me some Chinese bedding, it was like sleeping in crepe paper. Also I woke up the next day, looked in the mirror, and my face and body had turned pink!. The dye from the duet set had come out. Ended up staining and ruining some of my clothes

sax4, rough to hear - wow. Thats the problem - quality control can be lacking.

Hope it resolved with no hospital visit required...e.g. severe allergic reaction

That's the risk of buying some bedding items from China.

Pakistan manufacturers are slightly better.

It's the origin of the dyes that is the worry

In the good ole days the USA made the very best in bedding and other textiles in the Carolinas you could buy anywhere in the world.

Then greed set in and almost all of our manufacturing plants in the Carolinas are gone.

Sad.
