Its been almost 2 weeks since I ordered and seller is saying it is pending in HK customs. DHL tracking reads Shipment information received. This was last Friday, I have been doing business with this seller for yrs and trust them to a degree.....

No problems here - have had 6-8 packages leaving every week through Hong Kong to UK with no delays.

Normally the seller will package the items, give it to the shipping agent and then the shipping agent will arrange the package to be given to DHL. "Shipping information received" means that the package hasn't been picked up by DHL yet, so I doubt it has been held by HK customs.

Default "DHL delays in Hong Kong?"

I am also having trouble with a couple of orders from two different suppliers in HK... my shipment status with DHL states "Shipment information received" for 4 days now, never happened before, might just be a coincidence.

'Shipment information received' simply means that a label has been generated. It hasn't been pick-up or handed to DHL yet. I imagine the most obvious reason for this is that the shipper doesn't have a daily pick-up scheduled, so you are at their mercy there.

FYI, your shipment's tracking/airway bill number is assigned at the moment the shipping label is generated.....however until DHL have the shipment it in their possession, it isn't going to go anywhere.

A general step by step breakdown

1. Shipment information received (This means a label has been generated)

2. Shipment picked up (DHL have your item)

3. Departed Facility in HONG KONG (Your item has left the initial facility)

4. Arrived at Sort Facility HONG KONGn (Your item is going to be sorted for international shipping)

5. Processed at HONG KONG (Your item has been organised and is ready for shipping)

6. Departed Facility in HONG KONG (Your item has left Hong Kong)

Yes there are currently massive delays in HK Customs.
I have been told 2 different stories from my suppliers.

1 - "A large quantity of goods are stuck in the warehouse due to the upcoming Christmas. The shipping company is hiring more people to process. The human cost increased.
Many cargo aircrafts of UPS Fedex and DHL are designated to ship the new-released Apple products manufactured by Foxconn factory. This worsened the transport capacity."

2 - "Because the HongKong customs seized 54 kilogrammes of cold medicine that could be used for producing methamphetamine on 1/11 .Many delivery drivers are fetching under investigation .So all of the DHL packages will delay update 5-7 days due to the HongKong customs checking .
I will send the link of Hong Kong customs announcement and you could have a look!"

Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department - Press Releases

Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department - Press Releases

This is the reasons I have been given.

It took my last order over 5 weeks to arrive.

One of my suppliers is not shipping via Korea instead of HK.

Any stories about DHL Delays you hear from your HK or China Suppliers are C+rap. what happens is the following:

1. You order your item(s) from your China HK Supplier

2. they pack and get your order ready for dispatch and record a DHL Tracking number

3. The wholesaler USES A THIRD PARTY COURIER that collects a number of orders from various wholesalers.

4. Once the Courier has x amount of orders they will contact DHL TO COLLECT X AMOUNT OF PACKAGES.

5. DHL collects a number of packages from said courier.

If your package is the 1st the courier picks up then I am afraid you could wait up to 5 days until its collected by DHL.

Once your get a notification of Shipment Notification Received this is simply that the wholesaler has packed your item(s).

I also was told both..... My delays lasted about 2 weeks and now back to normal....
