Should I beware of knock off razor blades on eBay?

I recently bought a nice Gillette razor and the replacement blades are quite expensive in-store & online.

$45 for 8 blades: Online shop link: Buy Gillette Fusion ProGlide Power Blades from Canada at Well.ca - Free Shipping

Whereas on eBay, I was looking and they had them at significantly lower price $50 for 16 blades - eBay Link: Gillette Fusion PROGLIDE POWER Razor Blades Refills - 16 count | eBay

Is that too good to be true? They claim in the listing that they are genuine & authentic but those prices seem crazy to me.

rsot 04-17-2013 04:08 PM

I havent bought those blades online but at those prices, first question would be authenticity. But I looked at the positive feedback - a lot of people have bought the blades and are happy with them.

Seller is in the USA - I would do a light e-mail to verify with him but seems good.

onlinegirl 04-17-2013 06:02 PM

You're right to be cautious because if it seems too good to be true then usually it is. I would also do what rsot has said, give him a message, If you receive the blades and you find out they are ⊗⊗⊗⊗ then obviously you can leave feedback reflecting that. Some sellers really do have bulk buying power, or very good contacts ;)

mcmx 04-17-2013 06:23 PM

Thanks for the replies

Yeah I think it seems safe to buy based off the feedback - but that price still seems so low and too good to be true!

I Google'd some guide that shows how to tell the difference between real & f@ke so I will probably buy the smallest quantity that seller has for sale, and verify the authenticity based off the guide's tips.

What the hell is a "light" email?

onlinegirl 04-17-2013 06:52 PM

Be good to hear what the outcome is.

I had an experience a few months back where I a seller had listed genuine apple earpods, I messaged him and asked if they were copies and he told ne they weren't, his feedback had around 8 other buyers so I went ahead and brought them, low and behold they were Chinese replicas. I told him I hadn't received them so he sent me another pair and then left negative feedback.

GreenBean 04-17-2013 07:00 PM

Those ebay listings are not the real deal.

Shed loads of those were flooding ebay uk 3 Christmases ago. Still around from time to time. I imagine the supplier has just changed his trading name again.
.................................................. ..
supplier conversation:

'Yes, Friend, very good blade. I not know why there nicks on blade. Maybe you drop carton. No name on box is special price for you,Friend.'
.................................................. ...
If you value your skin dont use them
and your account
:pound:

LOL.

Gamefreak 04-17-2013 07:37 PM

youll risk your health over 25 dollars... sure wouldnt

slim jim 04-17-2013 07:41 PM

Do NOT buy health and beauty goods on eBay . Go to amazon at the least

unkown5454 04-17-2013 08:00 PM

There is also the chance that they are real, but stolen. This is a huge item for shoplifters who resell on CL, EB and AZ...

mcmx 04-17-2013 09:21 PM

Thanks for all the advice and replies.

My thought process when initially buying this model of Gillette razor was that if I was putting a blade to my face so often, I might as well get the best (arguably) regardless of how expensive it is.

I just purchased it from the store yesterday and don't need new replacements yet - but for the sake of my face and health I'll probably just buy new blades directly from my store; regardless of how expensive.

I think I'd be paranoid 24/7 if I bought those blades on eBay anyway...no matter how much proof was given to show they were genuine

GreenBean 04-17-2013 09:40 PM

@mcmx

recall that thread about towels from China?

Same point

Be safe with your face

Light e-mail = biz talk for INQUIRY question type of e-mail without accusing the seller :)

@OP, just fyi the blades do have a huge markup in the retail industry but it`s true about being cautious with your face. Still the seller has a lot of positive feedback - that does count for something.

yotano211 04-17-2013 10:48 PM

Dont ever buy those blades anywhere but a good grocery store. Several years ago I bought a box of 8 and they tore up they face after the 3rd shave. The reals ones will last me 2 months at least, shaving every day.

My face had so many bleeding spots. I emailed the seller back and returned them. My sister saw me shaving and wondered if I was alright. We were going to go eat that night but I canceled and stayed home, my face was that bad and red.

rsot 04-17-2013 10:55 PM

Sad to hear yotano - I hope you have recovered fully by now - personal experience is appreciated but sad to hear regardless

That must have been horrible.

Those blades are sometimes contaminated as well.

ouch for you.

GreenBean 04-17-2013 11:19 PM

Thread reminds me of troubles in Australia some years ago.

First Aid kits were exported from India.

They were a nice size with different items. They had small rolls of bandages.

Problem was the bandages were contaminated. At least 3 people who bought them, suffered massive injuries to damaged fingers through infection.
Horrible

HEY!!! I have a number of health and beauty powerseller accs on ebay..all genuine stuff and 100% feedback and prices fair....

I agree it is up to the seller to ensure where there goods are coming from, but of course they can never be 100% if a big legit supplier slips up or chooses to
mislead...I had this with chemist wholesalers several years ago, they supplied me with strangely labeled stuff, but I am unsure if they knew or not, I reported them to a ministry of health department, but I nothing back about it, so dropped it.
...this can happen on AMAZON sellers or anywhere online, I assure you...as
goods can come in via various channels to a main wholesaler...

I avoid gillette blades from my supplier and a few other products that are frequently f aked, even though I am sure they are legit, as I do not want the hassle of takedowns for no reason....

slim jim 04-18-2013 01:21 PM

I probably should not have made it such a generic statement. Its just what I follow. The bad sellers kill it for the rest and this could also easily happen on amazon as well as even a local store . Its tough to find a trustworthy source

suspendedfoe 04-18-2013 01:23 PM

These blades are authentic but are stolen. I know people who do this crap. I have seen blades soap, blades, axe spray being sold so cheap in detroit because people steal from riteaid and cvs. Blades were being sold for 5 bucks a pcs when they go for 30 dollars.

Do not under any circumstances use these blades for your manscaping duties.

SFBayer 04-19-2013 06:34 PM

Actually a lot of couponers get this stuff for close to free and resell it. They are mostly US sellers, but their products are legit and come from local drugstores where they often get it totally free.

Watch the show "Extreme Couponers". You'll understand. Health and Beauty items are easy freebies to acquire once you know how to play the game.

bro, you cannot tell if they are genuine or not from a few pictures and a description

yeah some sellers might source them from shoplifters, but guaranteed most will be from sellers who just dont care about their customers health

instead of buying them off ebay OP, contact your local shoplifter loool

yotano211 04-20-2013 10:57 PM

A good portion dont sell the stuff back to anyone. My ex girlfriend does the same but she has 5 kids to feed while still working a job. She has told me that most of the stuff they "buy" they keep in storage or donate it to charity. But she does know some people who sell the excess stuff.

Getting these coupons is a full time job in itself. She asks her friends for coupons or prints them from the internet, gets them from local newspapers or gets info from a forum like this about certain coupons or sales at the store. She keeps entire binder use of coupons and maps out her route when she goes shopping. She will hit one store and then hit another store for other specials.

I have gone with her on 2 occasions and wow, the planning involved makes me jealous. Its like a full-on army invading a country. I want to go again next month with her, she is bringing her friend along, who also does the same thing. I can only imaging the amount of carts they both will need.

I can tell 90% of the time. If they dont come with the retail packaging, they just come just lose. Most likely fa-kes or good fa-kes. With basic knowledge you can weed out most of them.

Speeder33 04-21-2013 01:24 AM

i just wouldnt trust anything that i put in/on my body unless it came from a store

ebay does have a lot of foo-foos even if they do crack down on them, i'd rather pay a little more and get the good stuff
