Own Clothing Brand

Hi all,

OK I have more or less lined up a firm supplier in China that is English run and is a very slick setup, quality of clothing produced is potentially better quality than you see in top fashion stores.

However, to rule out naivety I wondered whether anyone knows any set ups that could be as good closer to home and therefore match or better costs. Please note this isn't asking for people's suppliers as I have enough of my own however it's more a question of is there any set ups similar in Europe for a quicker turnaround time?

Thanks in advance

H

Tbh I don't really understand what your asking.

Do you mean you have sourcing agents in China who are English that find cloths from factories for you?

Or do you mean you have a very good Supplier in China that supplies the cloths to you?

If its the later then your not going to find anywhere in the EU that will match a Chinese factory for prices (that I have ever some across)

Sorry if I have misunderstood and it is neither of these. If so, do explain :)

Your not gonna find better manufacturer cost than from china and India

GreenBean 07-29-2013 06:03 PM

Not in the clothing industry these days.

They have been undercut by the sheer professionalism of the marketeers in China and India.

A few years ago, Eastern Europe had some potential. That has passed.

Bear in mind if you go with your Asian suppliers, there is every chance of expedited delivery when they start getting your money.

Thanks for the advice. This is an English run company based in China - no communication issues which is key especially with clothing.

GreenBean 07-30-2013 01:56 AM

@hdavey'

Qualify that one.

Hopefully fewer communication issues. Wait for 6 months of trading with them and then decide.

Dont forget this is the courtship to get your business. Then you have the honeymoon period.

Then you have reality. Be prepared for that.

Yes I understand however this isn't someone from Alibaba / Tradekey or DHGate. It is an English run manafacturer. As you say ill report back in time.

Sounds good - hope they have been in business longtime and are not just a startup operation

Korea, El Salvador and Hondorus still have the best produced clothing. Bangladesh can be good but they are soo poor it is hard to get anyone you can deal with. Never done business with India. Unless you have a solid source in China every time you get something the quality is different. The factory owners always try to substitute lower quality material etc.

You have to test out the market. I am not against China manufacturing. The problem is one order is great the next order is completely horrible. I think it is basically with any goods you buy or try to have produced. It is a learning process.

well stated vogeltron - those recent factory collapses in Bangladesh put a spanner in the works too

GreenBean 08-02-2013 06:31 AM

Factories have been collapsing there for years.

Corruption within Bangladesh is the issue.

The worker is the slave.

Profits to be made - whether ethical or unethical...not endorsing it though

Here's a happy thought then....

Stay on topic. No need to go off on a tangent

Ok so as stated above I was ready to use my supplier in China however despite the fact they are English run etc. it takes too long to get replies to emails and to establish the facts of what I want.

After discussing with a contact in Portugal I have been dealing with a company in Bangladesh who currently are producing for some top high street brands including 'WHITE COMPANY LONDON' and 'JAEGER' if you have heard of them.

I am at the stage where my samples have been made, artwork, embroidery etc. has been sent and samples of the materials I need have been received their end.

I need to register the brand which is key to not having issues with customs however, I need to know from anyone that has had experience -

1/ Even if I have had the brand registered and trademarked etc. how do customs know to release these parcels and to not hold them?

2/ Can I expect any problems that I may not have thought of despite having my paperwork in order?

3/ Does proof that I own the brand need to be included in the paperwork for the parcels?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure how much product you will be importing but if your going to do huge quantities such as a Containers worth...look into a Customs Broker (Not sure what they are called in the UK). Typically a broker handles all the customs paperwork.

If you plan to do anything less than a container at a time a Custom Broker might still be able to help you.

GreenBean 08-25-2013 06:46 PM

@hdavey

At this point you go over the Customs web site until your eyes are watering.

You have to do the ground work to make sure you have the bottom lined signed and dotted correctly.

There are specific legal steps needed ( as you asked).

Frankly the advice you need is beyond a US based forum.
