| Sumer | 09-18-2013 12:21 PM | Best way to start selling Hello, after finally learning the ways to manage stealth accounts, I've successfully opened a few accounts.
I've bought a few items on the accounts to get some buyer feedback (between 5-8 items) but I want to start selling slowly to generate some seller feedback.
What items should I stay away from and what items have you guys had luck with in the past just to get the accounts going before you list items you actually plan on selling and profiting from.
Any suggestions and advice would be great.
Thanks in advance. |

No I'm just kidding. You should sell none of those. |

I usually just sell house hold items, or small goods, etc. |

I usually just sell house hold items, or small goods, etc. | Good things to sell when first opening an account (although this depends on what you mean by small goods)
Books also are good to start off with |
| john456 | 09-18-2013 09:56 PM | Re: Best way to start selling Dollar store has been a source of inspiration. Garage sales as well. Lots of 10c nick nack that people want. |
| jeffweico | 09-18-2013 11:08 PM | Re: Best way to start selling Stay away from anything that is expensive or favored by counterfeiters. Also stay away from things like autographs, where the authenticity can be questioned.
Books, knick-knacks, dollar store items, cables, etc. are a good place to start. Anything lower-priced where authenticity is not a concern is OK. |
| Rambo3 | 09-19-2013 02:02 AM | Re: Best way to start selling All of these are correct. And honestly, you may actually make a little bit of profit by going to garage sales. Go with about 20-100 bucks, pick some stuff up. Make sure though that you dont get killed with shipping. |

Books, knick-knacks, dollar store items, cables, ... | I thought cables would raise flags because it is electronics? |
| unclejohnny | 09-19-2013 09:29 AM | Re: Best way to start selling Yard sale, dollar store post as auctions. Trust me you never know what gold mine you find in those places. |
Re: Best way to start selling @Sumer, if you have some time and skill, you can make some creative items that will sell for cheap and get good feedback too. |

Electronics themselves are often counterfeited. For example, there are Apple knockoffs galore! Like any other counterfeited items, some of them can be easily detected and others look just like the real thing. Used, but legitimate, items can have problems. Items can be damaged in transit.
Unbranded cables, however, are pretty safe, at least in my experience. A generic $1.50 HDMI cable really cannot be counterfeited, since there is no brand name.
Accessories such as cell phone cases can be high risk if they are branded - think Otterbox.
If anyone has ever lost an account due to selling unbranded cables, I'd be interested to know about it for my own benefit. I've never heard of this happening and I often sell HDMI cables to start an account off. I've never had eBay contact me about it, or restrict the account. |

I list them starting at 49 cents for a 7 day auction FREE shipping to the lower 48.
I'm losing money on most of the sales when I include ship costs
(1st class mail with tracking
but the glowing positive feedback is what counts here. |
Re: Best way to start selling 8 Track glory! Sweet :)
Hopefully not too much of a loss |

| wlkendzior | 03-06-2014 11:13 PM | Re: Best way to start selling I was poking around ebay the other day and saw that someone actually was selling bags of those little pop can tabs....so I guess just about anything will sell on ebay if someone is willing to list it. You never know what someone might be looking to buy. |
Re: Best way to start selling You should have seen what was being sold way way back in the day...pencil shavings, weird stuff...was funny |

15. Ladies Black Pubes
“Freshly trimmed pubes clean and fresh from eighteen year old virgin. Make a wig with them if you are lacking in your own. I am a student in need of cash. Strictly no kinky emails. I really don’t think this one will last very long but it goes to prove that anything is sold on Ebay.”
| oh my....that is so wrong... |
Re: Best way to start selling 11. Cat Ghost
“When I was young I had a cat named Shamey. Shamey was a good cat, but as I grew older so did she. One dad I came home and saw Shamey on the ground I thought she had fallen asleep, but I quickly realized she had died. I was heartbroken that my oldest and best friend had died. The day after she died we buried her in our back yard. That night I heard a meow, So I went down stairs to see what it was. I saw Shamey at the door, I rubbed my eyes and then she was gone, I thought I had just been dreaming it was in fact 2am, so I went back to sleep. A few weeks later I pasted the pet food at the store and heard a meow again, I thought about it and said no. These things have been happening for about 7 months now, and I miss her so much. So to let her go I am selling her ghost to a nice person who will appreciate having her following them now that she is in the afterlife. With the ghost comes her collar. I have had alot of death in my life, and seeing and hearing her kills me because i miss her sooo much. So this is my way of trying to move on, and raise money for my daughters college fund.”
Pretty relevant here to the cat lovers :) |
| vogeltron | 03-10-2014 05:41 AM | Re: Best way to start selling I remember a bar of Jar from like 02 Redskins playoff game sold for over $1000 dollars. Then a Hot Dog from the Seahawks 2006 NFC Championship game sold for like $1600 a week later. "Hawk Dog" might be able to look it up. It was different back then. I remember hearing about a waffle that randomly looked like the state of Texas selling for $50. Lol.
So much different than today. Even Pierre the founder sold a broken Laser Pen for like $30 for his first sale. To somebody who "collected broken laser pens".
I will say early days of eBay everything changed. Because to find lots of items you had to know somebody and go through a chain. For all kinds of collectibles. Now with eBay assuming you haven't been kicked off just about anyone can register and post their items. Has shrunk the value of many items that use to be considered collectible. |
