paying alibab supplier

I've always bought off Aliexpress but I want to try some new products from Alibaba.

Everyone says only use PayPal or Escrow etc but I cant find any suppliers who will let you.

I'm all set for an order, but they're adamant its TT or WU. They have 4 years gold star membership and have onsite verification and 3rd party legal verification. Trading in the $10-$50 million category.

She asked for my personal email and we concluded negotiations via email instead of alibaba messaging. Is this a red flag?

Her email is from the same domain as the website shown on alibaba.

The domain lookup says they've had the domain for 9 years but just shows the registrar as HICHINA ZHICHENG TECHNOLOGY LTD which I think is a big Chinese hosting company. When I look up my own domain the hoster comes up as a registrar AND my home address comes up.

Bank account payee name matches, (but so does my stealth accounts' paypal details!)

Its only $500. A lot to me but should be petty cash to them.

Other than flying out there and buying the goods in person, how else do you guys get started with alibaba suppliers?

I wouldn't do it. I only use aliexpress and alipay but I can't imagine a legit reason why they wouldn't want to use escrow. You need the protection when dealing with these Chinese companies.

Never send TT to China company.. Thats what the Escrow is for..
If they wont use Escrow, find another supplier..waaay to risky to send cash direct.
Alibaba and Aliexpress are the same parent company..

fyi, how they handle your email address in China is not the same as in the West.
it is common to get spam / scam emails after contacting gold suppliers, even some with many years and verified. Some of the employees who do receive the official message you send via Alibaba to the supplier will share them with others.

What they do is, copy past your message from Alibaba in the email they send to you but the email address will not be from the company or alibaba. Also sometimes they use the link to the official supplier alibaba website in the signature.

So be careful, if the deal is too good to be true, ...... the rest you know.

Personally, I only deal with suppliers that accept paypal even if it is for sample or small order only. Usually for big orders they will insist in other payment options.

Plus the first few messages I will do within the alibaba system (or use the chat option), only later I will do it by normal email.

I've worked with a bunch of different suppliers from aliexpress and alibaba off of the site only after I've had numerous good transactions on the site with them. I always pay with paypal since they cover the transactions. I only do this because they'll typically drop the price a good amount to not have to go through ali.

Its just really annoying as I've found several suppliers for this great niche I've found and the only ones that will sell in wholesale quantities refuse paypal.

offer to cover their paypal fees on top of it.

If its the first time certainly use PayPal, I don't see any reason why they would object other than having to pay a fee which wouldn't be much. Offer to pay the fee too and then if they refuse I would be strongly convinced there's something fishy going on.

highly unlikely they'd scam you for 500$. Some of my suppliers don't use paypal either. Think we on here should know why better than most lol

If they refuse to use Escrow / PayPal / AliPay - don't do business with them. In case of any issues, your money will be gone forever.
