eBay messages "You got paid to merchant account"

Hi guys,

On ebay I started getting random payment notices that state:

You got paid! (User) has made a payment of $44.29 to your merchant
credit card account.

My question is what merchant account? I only have paypal attached. Are they converting to Merchant account? If yes then this could lead to many stealth issues.

Just wondering if its a fluke or what?

Thanks for your kind words!

NJM

Maybe someone paid via "Guest" with a Credit Card.....only thing that I can think of.

My guess is it is either a glitch as ebay is always sending me irrelevant or non-applicable notices.

or

You have some advance cart/checkout solution that could be causing ebay to now think you are using a merchant account.

Either way, I would not worry about Paypal becoming a bank any time soon. They already provide the more tradition merchant account solution. So they have all their financial bases covered and won't be opting into more regulations any time soon that could hurt their bottom line.

In our current over-regulated nation especially in the banking and financial services industry, mid-size banks are having to merge due to the cost of these regulations. Paypal understands that in their gray area, they get to have their cake and eat it too. No incentive for them to do anything that will make stealth harder.

Re: eBay messages "You got paid to merchant account"

I think it's a fluke. I got a total of 3 of those notifications over the weekend out of ~350 payments received. I looked into the transaction details just to see if anything looked different about those 3 orders, and I don't really see anything. Two of the orders were from "Non-US verified" users and one was from an "unregistered" user. The first one I saw was the unregistered user and I figured this may be some sort of way for Paypal to void their seller protection program when dealing with unregistered buyers, but after seeing the other two transactions that doesn't appear to be the case.

I don't have a merchant credit card account set up that I'm aware of, unless that's what it meant when Paypal had me virtually sign all those agreements between my business and credit card companies a few months ago. I don't think that's what that was though.

Other than the cryptic Ebay message everything seems normal about these orders.
