Warning! new Super Cookies enabled on firefox

I think everyone knows about how companies use stored flash objects as cookies, but now something even more devious. A new cookie on firefox that can never be erased. the DomStorage cookie. Just a matter of time before ebay et al use it on you. So disable it now.

Here's how to disable it

Managing Mozilla/Firefox DOM Storage Privacy. If you use a Mozilla browser, you can disable DOM Storage pseudo-cookies by typing about:config into the URL bar. That will bring up an extensive list of internal browser configuration options. Type "storage" into the filter box, and press return. You should see an option called dom.storage.enabled. Change it to "false".

also to check out the cookies on your flash player go here

Adobe - Flash Player : Settings Manager - Website Privacy Settings panel

You probably want to leave the paypal and ebay flash cookies and only waste them if you want to set up a new account.

thanks just disabled the DomStorage cookie

again, you shouldnt need this if you use different user accounts.

i need this because i use a mac

^^^^^^^^
Even if you do run a Mac platform you should STILL use different user accounts on your computer.
I have 5 Mac's in my house. 3 iMacs and 2 Powerbooks.
I use different computer user accounts for ALL my eBay/Paypal needs.

This keeps ALL cookies separate.
It has nothing to do with Mac VS PC

ebaykilla 03-23-2009 08:37 PM

where do they store these cookies exactly and why can't you manually delete them?

bigpoppa911 03-24-2009 07:22 AM

I disable mine as well just to be safe and not have to worry about it. It can't hurt.

ebaykilla 03-24-2009 11:48 AM

has anyone been banned due to them? how do you disable them on a mac?

lakeman 03-24-2009 12:34 PM

Ebay doesn't use them yet, so I don't see how anyone could have been banned from them.

I'm using firefox, and when I disable it, I get an error saying my browser is rejecting cookies when trying to login to ebay.
