Virgin Media Issues

I had a power surge cut today.

And from tonight I cannot change my IP address.

I use a Virgin Media Super Hub and a TP Link Router.

Never any issues until today.

I can change the MAC address of the Router, then reboot the Super Hub, but the IP address does not change.

Any suggestions please?

What procedure where you using to change IP prior to this happening?

You may need to look at getting a new router / modem. May also be worth looking at replacing the cable between the 2

Its really hard to say what may be causing the issue but I would guess some sort of issue with the settings.

Have you double checked that the VM hub is in modem mode still?

I change the MAC Address on the Router.

Seconds later, the Wi-Fi signal icon on the bottom right of the screen should display a Yellow exclamation mark.

I then simply turn off the Super Hub for a few seconds then reboot.

No problems since I bought the router.

Now when I change the MAC address on the router the exclamation marks does not appear.

Something has happened in the Power surge and I can't figure out what.

Yep changed the Super Hub into Modem mode then back into Router Mode.

I will turn both off for a few minutes and disconnect the cable.

Going offline....

I can only imagine power surge reset something.

See your issue (I presume) is your running two routers concurrently.

One should be a modem, and the other a router.

I would suppose the superhub be the modem as thats connects directly to ISP. So set that as the modem, not router, then try.

I feel the IP is being dragged by the superhub, being fed to the tplink, and as such modifying anything like MAC address of tp link is having no effect.

Networking is a headache as it is, and when you daisychain things, its just a matter of working out whats causing the issue.

Sorted it.

Not sure what happened, but after turning the Super Hub from Router Mode to Modem Mode a few times then performing a Factory reset all is well.

Have a fabulous Christmas everyone, best wishes.
