Shipping lost and buyer requesting for refund

Hi, guys my item that was shipped was supposed to be delivered by the 18th of Feb. It's been about a week since it hasn't been updated until now the buyer requested a refund and found out that the item might be lost somewhere in the building. I literally called 50times the usps in the last place that was supposed to be dropped off but no one picks up the phone, and apparently they are known for never picking up the damn phone.

At this point I can guarantee this will never be taken care of although I did call the USPS and gave me a case number.

What should I do at this point? Just refund it? or show ebay that it's really not my fault either and that I haven't received it back from USPS either.

Any advice I would greatly appreciate. Thank you guys!

This happens sometimes.

And it's been closer to 2 weeks since the 18th.

You can probably win a case because it shows 'delivered', but ethically there's more to the matter.

If the post office just dropped the ball it's on you. If the buyer didn't properly identify where it was to go it's on them.

Did the buyer give an incorrect/inadequate address? His address should look something like this:

XYZ Corp
127 Main Street
Floor 14 Suite 1471 Dept of Useless Knowledge
Anytown, USA 00000-0000
ATTN: Dumb Buyer

Address was right, it was confirmed by paypal also. It want delivered to the final destination either, its stuck in the middle, at the last post office before reaching to the buyers address but the buyer does not want to go pick it up either and wants a refund. Should i just eat the refund and lose the item?

Thats worth fighting for.

explain to the buyer that you will get an investigation started with the post office - follow through with this.

My question is why the buyer did not open up an INR case. They may have a history of doing so and may be hesitant because its recorded.

The WORST case is to tell the buyer to open the INR case, update the tracking that showed its been delivered then let ebay close it and the buyer needs to deal with it on their end.

this is how it looks.

The item was never delivered. But I don't know if the guy did this on purpose by putting a weird address. Paypal says the address is confirmed so I assumed it was the right address.

Should I still fight for it?

Yeah. fight until it says delivered.

Why would he pay and then put down a phony address? Doesn't make sense.

How can you fight when it wasn't delivered?

You can't win this one. Give the guy his money back and consider it a lesson.

Next time send it Priority which includes $100 insurance, signature receipt required, they take a lot more care with Priority packages and special services than First Class.

The item still has a chance of delivering with a super long delay. I'd try to draw out the process as long as possible or try to get that package returned to sender ASAP

It is POSSIBLE it will show up, I've had items returned to me, or arrived at the customer 1-2 months later.

Still, if the buyer opens a case the seller is going to lose because he can't prove it was delivered.

Demand to talk to your local post master give him the tracking a few days later in most cases it will magically start moving again .

Re: Shipping lost and buyer requesting for refund

One of my 'cases closed without seller resolution' was for an item that was lost. I asked the buyer to be patient... they opened a case against me and won. They got the refund, and later when the item was delivered got to keep the item. After a half dozen phone calls to eBay, each CS upheld their ruling against me... saying I didn't refund them in time, and its irrelivant if the item was later delivered, and they can't do anything about the buyer keeping the item.

My roomate runs the local USPS facility.. this was very common a few years ago but their numbers have gotten way better. Whoever lost it will hear about it... if you file a report they will see the last place it was, and can guestimate where it could have gotten lost from there and attempt to find it. Even if its first class.

Yup your local post master can really get things unclogged after they start a trace
