VMware workstation from windows to on mac

So I have windows and use VMware workstation and save all files on a external HD. I was thinking of getting a Mac so would I be able to continue using it on a mac? I heard VMware workstation don't work on mac

If it is a MacBook, you might use bootcamp, load windows, then away you could go.

for Mac you need VMware Fusion 8.5 and I don't know if the files will load from a PC to a MAC.

+1 for Vmware Fusion.
If your VMs are made with the latest version of Workstation, then the latest version of Fusion will be able to open and run it without any issues.

Good to know, I don't have a Mac so I couldn't really give a 100% sure answer on that one.

What if I get a Mac book 2 year later when fusion updates to 2 version older. Will it be still able to open my current latest workstation file? Would I be able to update these VM to make them compatible with future confusion?

Because you said if my VM are made with the latest version.
