eBay listing item for over 10 000$

Hi all!
I'm new on this forum and got a question.
I got an eBay seller account with 17+ positive selling feedback (100% positive) and can list up to 40/1200$ per month.
I'm selling for ~100-130$ per one item. In next days I would like to sell an item worth 12 000$ - 15 000$ and I'm afraid because don't want to lose item and money.
I've searched a lot of pages and found that items for over 10 000$ needs to be pay with bank transfer. Is that true?
And what do you think, selling that expensive item is high risk?

If you have never sold an item that high you will face 2 scenarios:
1. They hold the money until the item is delivered
2. The account gets limited until you submit documents

Thank you for answer.
I got my paypal since 2012 year and once traded with someone and he paid me 5000$. These time I got 180 days hold and after that I can use this money and withdraw it so I did it.
Is that account history matter?

And what type of documents they need? I got pp fully verified.

Edit: and still this question: for over 10 000$ needs to be pay with bank transfer. Is that true?

Your PP account was limited 180 days and can not be used to receive money, I think

2. If I list item and bidding goes to for example 11 000$ and my selling limit is 1200$ I can sell it?

If I have to sell a 10 000$ item, I would never ever use PayPal anyway.

OP - I've heard the maximum transaction size for Paypal is $10,000. So anything over that would need to be split into multiple transactions, or handled by other means (bank transfer, perhaps)

With as little experience as your account has, I personally wouldn't receive such a large payment into Paypal. I know it's possible because I send my supplier $8-10k per week with Paypal. But we both have very strong accounts.

You're saying you've already had a 180 day limitation so your Paypal account is probably limited anyway.

1) Yes, you'll need to use another method for a transaction over $10k.

2) No, you will not be allowed to sell over your limits. Complete the sale off of ebay.

That's not the case if it's an auction and the bidding just happens to go over that amount.

You can't list a BIN over your limit, or start an auction over it, but there's no problem if bidding on an auction goes over that level; you won't be able to sell any more for that month, but the bid will still go through no problem.

Point taken, and erroneous info removed. I've got very limited experience with auctions lol.

Over 10k - PayPal can not do such payments, so bank transfer will be required. So the only issue will be ebay, but they do not generate a lot of problems usually.

Re: eBay listing item for over 10 000$

I dont know why you would even consider ebay when it comes to such an expensive item.
I know that as a buyer I would not be too keen on buying such an item - especially if I did not even have the protection paypal would afford me. To make things worse this will likely be an international transaction.
Add to the above the fact that youll need to start your item at a lower price (due to your selling limits) and youre looking at a substantial loss. Not worth it if you ask me.

I'm afraid for selling that expensive item with paypal and I'll try to list and get payment with bank transfer or other payment method if possible. I'm a little newbie and don't want to be scammed.

Thank you all for information :)

Hi, the problem is, that Buyer will (almost) never pay with bank transfer (i am not talking about international eBay - its even worse) and if yes, it will be pain as hell (Time to time i can get them on BW (Bank Wire) but its hard. Because if you will write down "Bank transfer" in to your listing, youre breaking TaC of eBay and your listing will be down (Some of the competitor will report it).

And no, its not true buyer cant pay over 10k. If its thru eBay - he can call and ask for "permision" and payment over 10k will come thru. Usually with CC - so be carefull for chargebacks. And yes, you will get 21days fot this huge amount.

Anyway, in my opinion you will not stay a for a long time with 10k and more sales per transaction. I usualy do 1eB, 1PP, 1 sale.. Bye. I dont have second chance and if yes, its usualy limited :)))

Good luck, have fun. Sorry for my english.

I've received high 5 figure payments and a single 6 figure payment to Paypal processed via echeck. I am completely unaware of a $10,000 limit on Paypal transactions.

Did you just say, you only sell one item per ebay account?

Re: eBay listing item for over 10 000$

For large transactions in the high five-figures, the PP would need to have seen prior history of the same. If not, at the very least you should expect either a hold or limitation w/request for docs. Be prepared for ID request + supplier invoices/bills of sale/receipts, and tracking info.

If you have never these docs on this PayPal before, esp. for a new expensive item, you will likely have to provide that. They are not going to allow you to move that much fund without some sort of verification.

So as long as the item(s) you plan to sell are legit, and your account details are good, you should have no problem doing $10k+

In the list of bad ideas we see here every day, this is close to #1.

Give this idea the burial it deserves and find another way to sell your item.

Never sell anything on EB if you can't afford to lose your item and your payment both.
