cheapest is usually not the right solutions / a tracfone is pretty inexpensive and works good

Plenty of easy and cheap solutions out there and plenty of apps that would offer you a free number.
How well these will perform for your needs is another matter entirely and is for you to research.
I agree with '123' - Tracfone is a solid solution and is not overly expensive.

Anyone know how/where to get additional sims for the Tracfone without having to buy new phones?

For tracfone, you need to buy a tracfone PHONE + Sim kit + Refill card ??

How long it takes to set up a new number? Can the number be changed /recycled?

Seems complex.

I think it's a one off kind of thing. You buy the phone and the airtime. Pretty sure the phone comes with a sim.

Trac phones are $10 and sometimes $5.00 pretty cheap really but many, many, many phone apps if you want mediocre and free.

There are plenty of good options out there. If you dig a little, you'll find some that have never been mentioned on the forums. Don't choose the cheapest VOIP or you will end up with 0/0 accounts. Ebay does have the power to see if you are using a real number or VOIP.
