Accidently Added Same Bank account to two different paypal
 

I accidentally added the same bank account to two different paypal accounts but did not confirm the security deposits on the second account yet.

Are both accounts toast?

Paypal would not allow you to add the same bank account to two different paypal accounts - unless you took it off the first account first.
And if that's the case then yes - the two accounts are now linked.

Hmm

It definitely let me add the same bank account to two different paypals but I have not confirmed one of the bank accounts yet.

I got two different sets of penny deposits to verify the paypal account. One set for each bank account. I have not verified the second account yet though.

Couldn't that just mean I typo'd the bank account number in their eyes and I couldn't verify it for that reason.

Is it possible you used two different routing numbers? That could also result in this sort of situation. And that would also link the accounts.
Bottom line - if some glitch allowed this situation your accounts are now linked.

So youre saying the fact he has the exact same bank account on both paypal accounts will not link them and will not be an issue?
Pretty sure youre wrong on that... if one of these accounts gets into trouble the other will be taken down as well.

Ive read that some credit union banks can you be used upto 3 times by altering the 00 digits before the account number. Would that also link two paypals if different zeros were added?

back 3-4 years ago you could use the same bank on multiple accounts but these days it will not accept it and tell you the account is already used by someone else. Same as the credit card.

is that before or after you try to confirm the bank account will it tell you that it is in use by another PP acc

When you first try to add it PP will tell you it can't be used because it is already in use.

I've done it by mistake.

If you did do this, and it went through, they're linked forever now. When one fails so will the other one, or if one day they do a sweep they'll find it and close it down for you.

Probably should establish new PP/EB accounts and get them ready.

This is the kind of thing where the longer it lasts the greater the certainty it will become a problem.

I had this happen to me recently with a BoA account where I linked a bank account to one PP, forgot to note this in my personal records, then a few weeks later added the same bank account to a different paypal and it went through. Two sets of micro deposits on the transaction history of this bank account. I am trying to figure out why the heck it let me do this.

I have done this before. It is possible. Mine was with a PNC account. There were other times that I tried adding a used VBA before and I did get the message that this account had been used already and they would not allow it.

I have no clue why my PNC bank account was accepted on 2 accounts, but it happened. I did not confirm the deposits and quickly removed it. That paypal is still alive today without issues.

So as you both say that, you are correct, but for some reason it can still slip through the cracks and happen

@OP, I am unsure what will happen. My accounts are fine, so I suspect yours will be too. Make sure you dont confirm deposits on second account and make sure you remove the bank account from the second paypal account.

I have done it before accidentally and they DO allow you to add same bank to different PP. I remove the bank account from the second PP immediately and now one of the PP is gone and the other one is fine. My guess is if you do not verify it and remove it immediately, they won't be linked.

I would really love to know what that factor is that allows this to happen every once in a while. I figured it was just a glitch but that answer never satisfied me.

I would like someone to try and run accounts with the same bank accounts. Years ago I did it without a problem before I knew what stealth even was.

I have 2 accounts going with the same bank added to both of them due to this "glitch." None of them have a SS or EIN attached so I'm limited with how much I can sell, but I did sell on them last year and this year and so far no issues.

This post is quite old, but that thing just happened to me for the first time.
Long story short - I wasn't able to add the bank account that was attached to
the other pp stealth account.
Did I messed up both accounts now?
My concern is that I tried to withdraw some money out of the account that is already linked
to that bank account. It gave me the message on pp that "your withdraw confirmed.." , but I did not get the email notification
saying: "We are transferring money to your bank".
Hopefully it will go through tomorrow.
Your thoughts?

Update:
I just got the "We are transferring money to your bank" email.
Usually I get it instantly.. took it more then an hour this time.
