eBay UK - Check Your Risk Status

Hello,

You've opened your new stealth account. You've even managed to bag a decent selling allowance, right?

That's all good and well. But, despite this, you're still concerned about whether it all went 'OK' or 'BAD' on their system.

Well, if you're a UK eBay user, you're in luck. For at-least the time being, there is a glitch (or perhaps intentional) method to check if you've been flagged as a high risk and are likely to be stuck with 10 items or less for quite a while, or even worse, become reviewed and suspended.

1. Here's a picture of a stealth's selling allowance. It's a fairly average selling allowance, not abnormal since it's newly opened...

As this account has a selling allowance, and not the dreaded '0' trap, we can't determine if the account is in good standing with eBay. But, thanks to their support system, we can now check whether you're scraping the boat and are flagged as a risk.

2. Here's a picture of the 'Increase Selling Allowances' section of their support website, which they generate a response unique to your account standing...

Now in picture 1, we have an allowance of 10, but in picture 2, we are told otherwise. Why is this? It's their two independent systems. The first is the risk assessment and the second is their account 'flags' if you will. As the account in question was created with something that triggered their alarm bells, the account is actually supposed to have '0' but was lucky enough to receive the allowance BEFORE the high-risk factor was introduced, whether it be an IP address, the first item you listed, the phone number you've verified or the PayPal you've decided to link after registration.

Here's the URL for the support section in question:

If you don't see the message shown in picture 2, but see something more generic, then congratulations, you're in good standing with them at this time. It's a good idea to check this frequently, as you can become the above even after you've opened the account successfully. It could be a recent listing violation or even a bit too many sales within a short period.

I hope this has been of use to you all.

Happy Selling!

So basically this thread is just showing a link on how to increase selling limits by phone, chat or email?

Not sure why having 0 limits or 10 limits is relevant.

I would've thought that the thread's information would have made it clear enough.

The summarize it;

When that particular support message appears, despite having a seller allowance of 1 or more, it means you're a high risk to eBay and could be reviewed or suspended in the near future when selling.

If the message in the second screenshot doesn't show, but is generic with their contact information, the account is synchronized with the seller allowance and is not classified as a risk necessarily.

It has nothing to do with how to increase limits - a 2 year old can find that info on Google.

Your observation may correct, or it may turn out to be a fluke.... only time and lots more data will tell for sure.

Remember, correlation does not equal causation. One famous example is, as ice cream sales increase so do the number of drownings. The two data sets are unrelated, ie ice cream sales don't cause drownings, but the correlation exists.

It may also be a quirk related to the way the UK site presents, and the rest of us in other countries will never see it at all.
