Let's make sure we get something correct, there are no such things are robots at ebay......what they have is software that run algorithms 24/7, so when your account meets certain criteria they are running gets met, they then do what they are programmed to do.

As far as Disputes, I will have to say that a Human looks at it and makes a decision....but I could be wrong.

well, ive had disputes resolved at the awkwardest of hours, and that was no sooner than i had asked eBay to step in.

i heard a rumour on a respectable tech show, but then i can hear Convinience screaming all over this. especiallly now that some of ebays functions are pushing towards automation

Like I said, Ebay and other sites like Amazon have their own software that do many things....like banning accounts, raising limits, and so on. The software doesn't have to get paid, doesn't need sleep, doesn't even complaint about the horrible coffee in the break-room. I'm sure some type of disputes are handled by software and some more complicated ones are handled by humans.

I believe the standard cases that get escalated are done by bots

The "item not received" are often closed very quickly once system can verify item as delivered. I have never lost one of those cases if item does indeed show delivered. I have had several 100 over years.

eBay do actually use heuristics based AI to detect fraud and among other activities, not just traditional rule based programming. You could say eBay is operated heavily by robots in that sense

There are no robots or bots.. as MM78 stated, it's all software with algorithms. If you meet certain criteria an action is taken. Whether that puts you in a review queue or something immediately happens to your account, it's all preprogrammed and adjusted periodically.

This is not fully correct. eBay do employ AI for a lot of aspects of their platform in addition to traditional rule based algorithm.

Fields such as fraud detection is simply too difficult and inefficient to write solely using rules, since it's very difficult to come up rules to stop the thousands of different scenarios. It's also difficult to adapt collection of rules to newer scenarios. In addition, rule based algorithms can be bypassed a lot easier by the users. That's why AI excels in theses areas a lot better.

You're saying, for example an account gets flagged by the system and than it's put up against some AI which makes a decision? I can see that but most likely it's a PayPal employee making a decision or a 3rd party which makes the decision. AI is too dumb to be doing anything like suspending an account. I can see filters being pushed triggering an action but that's about it, there isn't a smart enough AI; otherwise there would be no employees or thresholds needed, there would just be an all knowing AI to handle things.

These are just technical terms that don't really fit for what eBay or PayPal is.. I see people trying to make eBay/PayPal scarier than reality.

eBay/PayPal does not need bots to run their business.. it's more complicated than that.
