New account first listing

I'm asking specifically about the first item on a new account. Is it okay if the first item is say 400 or 500$ worth or it should be less? Thanks

You need to make that a lot lower. You may want o try something unbranded, not risky, not intangible, for less than $50. Up to $100 might be OK, but I'd still start smaller.

Less...a lot less.

You want to be looking at 5%, maybe 10% of that value for a first item

Thanks for the responses guys, but I'm curious what's the reason behind this. Would they likely ban me if I try to do this? And how many low priced items do you think one should sell before dealing with amounts I mentioned?
I'm just starting out on ebay so any feedback is appreciated.

The reason is, a brand new account selling high priced items = high risk/liability

You need to earn the trust before selling expensive items.

It's like the search function on here is completely unexplored territory...

Best case scenario they're going to hold your funds forever, worst case they'll hold your funds and close you down both.

Nobody with half a brain is going to spend $4-500 with a newbie who doesn't have a sales history of completing orders.

Think it through from EB and the buyer's viewpoint.
