Delivered but not received
 

I did a search on this and the latest post was 2014 so I am looking for current information.

The buyer did not open a Paypal dispute, just a request for information

Tracking is showing "delivered, left with individual" but claims they have not received

If I let this go to a Paypal dispute, will Paypal defend me with no signature required?

I was going to send the buyer a message saying that I will call their post office to open an investigation, and have the post man come out to identify the person it was left with. I'm hoping it's the buyer and that will scare them into admitting that they miraculously found it.

In my experience, the tracking showing as delivered is usually enough. You need to go to USPS.com and see what their tracking says as well. Ebay tracking and USPS tracking does not always match. And ebay will sometimes look at USPS tracking to see more details.

How can you be responsible when it is delivered to the address? (unless you messed up on the address) It would be the greatest scam for buyers across ebay.

It happens. Say, for example, the mail carrier scan it 'delivered' but leaves it in the wrong mailbox.

I've had people from down the street bring me my scanned 'delivered' mail.

That said, about half the time after I've described the packaged and asked them to check with family or neighbors it turns up.

You will probably win a case, it doesn't mean the customer is lying.

As bjammin says, check usps.com for the real tracking, EB can't be trusted.

Well dudes USPS has GPS on delivery and can show you a freaking picture from satellite of the house it was delivered to.

I looked up the USPS GPS details on Google, and it isn't available everywhere, and isn't always accurate. It also can be manually over-ridden by the carrier.

Still, that would make life easier if it became readily available.

INR cases for a bad address are dicey, but as mentioned here already, PP will more than likely refund the buyer even if tracking shows 'delivered'.

Important thing is to always ship to the address shown in PP. If it's incorrect, it might end up with someone else. Unless you shipped not requiring sig. confirmation, the postman can get lazy and just deliver the package to the address shown, regardless of the name. USPS tracking doesn't tell you the address delivered to, just the city/state/zip.

You might try and open a case with USPS even if it's not insured. They have access to more detail than you can see on their site. Maybe they can "confirm" the actual delivery of the item.

Some of my orders will miss the delivered scan after "out for delivery". I had one that made it all the way to the carrier, and I assume delivered, but the customer opened an INR. I lost the case because "out for delivery" doesn't mean squat. fortunately the item was low value, so didn't lose that much.

One other thing to note: Even "Signature Confirmation" service doesn't always guarantee you will get delivery confirmation. Sometimes it will show "Delivery Status Not Available" depite the item being delivered. This is sometimes a result of the carrier not scanning at delivery, or the info wasn't received by their system.

Just had this happen. Usually, Paypal will refund the buyer, but they wont ding your account as an unresolved issue if you upload tracking proof. It sucks to lose it, because there is a strong chance that it is fraud, but it is just part of the business.
