Ebay phone verification
 

Just want to confirm this as I can't seem to find the answer in my searches.

When you try to sell your first item, does Ebay asks you for a telephone number verification right then or it could be later down the road? I ask because I sold an item a few weeks ago and everything went smoothly and I was surprised that I didn't have to verify anything to sell. But today when I tried to list a second item Ebay asked me to verify phone before I can sell.

Is this strange or normal?

Secondly does Ebay call and give you the verification PIN or do they send you a text?

Its immediately I believe, before you can even start selling and its perfectly normal.

And just so you know, VOIPs don't give high selling limits, only real sims do.

Strange then that I didn't get asked when I listed first item but I'm being asked now on second listing. Does it have to do anything with the category of listing or what I'm listing?

Also would like to know the answer to my second query, is the phone verification done by Ebay for a Canadian account call based or text based?

eBay can they do text/call verification whenever they feel like. Is there any reason to be concerned about? The real question is, do you have access to the phone number or you don't?

I could not tell you, on eBay UK I have always had to verify my phone number before being allowed to sell. I presumed it was the norm, my accounts are still A grade solid and have been for a while now.

Has happened with 3 accounts now, maybe it's got to do with the selling amount? The first items were below $5 the second items are above $10.

Still doesn't answer my question, is Ebay Phone verification SMS based or PIN based because I will have to go the VOIP/Virtual Phone way to do this so need to know before I purchase some plan and don't want to waste money and time if it's SMS based.

But for first time verification does Ebay txt or call to give PIN? I have to get a VOIP as I am currently not in the country of the accounts.

For the first time, you can choose which one you are able to do.

Was not the case for me on my 3 Canadian accounts. I added mobile numbers and verified them through sms and when tried to sell it asked to verify the account/number through an automated voice call.

So I want to confirm, does Ebay verify mobile numbers through sms first and then ask to verify account when you try to sell first item? So there are two verifications?

There was only 1 verification about a year back if I recall correctly and that was voice call based.

This has been happening a lot lately with several accounts I've just opened. I'll list the first item no problems. As soon as I list the second item, doesn't matter if I wait a few days Ebay pulls down my listings and wants me to verify by phone. First time all they wanted was a text, on another account they wanted a phone call, and sometimes they wanted both. I guess Ebays getting tougher on new accounts. One account actually got suspended indefinitely cause they said there was suspicious activity. It seems like it's hit or miss.

I usually just ask for the text, but I'm in the US, can't speak to your country.

For me it's been after the second item listed. The first item goes up fine and I'll let it sit for a couple of days. Immediately after listing the second item I get a message saying I need to call and verify.
