If you use gmail from gmail.google.com your email is routed and sent by gmail's servers and their server ip address is passed on.

I haven't seen it where your own ip address is passed on going this route. I just tested it again and did not see my ip, only google's ip address.

Now if you send via pop, your ip address could be passed on depending how you setup your pop account.

Regardless, this is an old topic and it seems to pop up once a month and it's getting old. Gmail is safe to use, that's why we recommend it.

I have yet to be linked using gmail, it's pretty safe as long as you follow the recommendations.

I was only partly correct in v1.0 of post #22.

I used gmail as an example anyhow, just to show that not everything is always correct (not even what I say :grin:) due to interpretation, circumstance, application, or even location or time of day. And to illustrate that not everyone understands or agrees all the time. Thus, it is sometimes good to be skeptical and do a little legwork from time to time.

I just learned a bit from myself while checking my own facts in re: the gmail example. Things I would have missed, had I not gone back for a revisit of my inbox. (obviously I should delete old mail, for starters).
