The biggest sellers getting banned

Has anyone else noticed that a few of the biggest Ebay US sellers are getting suspended/banned? Is Ebay cracking down on some things? I thought Ebay would let their largest sellers get away with bloody murder.

How do you know? And even if they are not sure what was the reason it could be anything

I saw one a few months back who had their listings taken down and they haven't been put back up. I just looked at another bigger seller, and it is the same thing. I am just surprised that Ebay would do that.

Re: The biggest sellers getting banned

As the other poster just said, you technically don’t know that eBay took them down. Businesses close, people get illnesses that affect their productivity and other outside factors may lead to a large store closure.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

Soon they'll be coming here. Always happens after a purge. Waiting for an influx of new membership.

Re: The biggest sellers getting banned

You think they got taken down just because they don't put listings up anymore?!!

If that is your criteria, then you are probably miscalculating my friend.

I always forget about the surge of people coming to the forum asking for help. Remember the huge purge that went down 1-2 years ago? accounts were getting banned left, and right, and upside down!

Re: The biggest sellers getting banned

I was one of those 14,000 top 1% selling accounts that got the axe for being controlling back in 2013. Big accounts get rolled too. Just takes a little longer. Exactly 30 days to be precise.

Re: The biggest sellers getting banned

For being controlling? What's that lol

dallis 02-27-2018 03:53 PM

Re: The biggest sellers getting banned

I was wondering about that too...

Re: The biggest sellers getting banned

owning to much % of a categories sales. Hence they cut 14,000 top 1% sellers in one month. Eliminate the big players that keep prices low and competitors out and it allows small sellers to flood the market.

My nitch now has thousands of listings and hundreds of sellers. Back then a few and we all knew each other.

Interesting.

Did it accomplish what EB wanted?

Re: The biggest sellers getting banned

Just doesn't make sense... it's usually the small sellers they don't give a sh1t about!

If you look at current eBay I'd say they accomplished their goal. The way their search algorithm works indicates they purposely keep sellers from dominating a niche. You're lucky if you can keep a listing in the top spot for a month before it's made almost invisible. Older accounts surrender their listing visibility to newer accounts. They want seller diversity and I can understand why.

ebaystealth1974 02-28-2018 10:27 AM

Re: The biggest sellers getting banned

How does that benefit eBay? To take a great selling listing, and bump it down and down.

Didn't they used to have "best match" showing the most relevant listings? You're saying that's changed?

I haven't been selling much on there for a while, so I haven't noticed what you speak of.

phaz0rz 02-28-2018 10:34 AM

Re: The biggest sellers getting banned

They would rather have a ton of sellers doing moderately well than 10 sellers doing 90% of all eBay sales because it gives them more control over the marketplace. I'll try to go into more detail after coffee lol.

Sounds like us, trying not to put all their eggs in one basket!

I've had my coffee limit for the day... bouncing off walls and beating this keyboard to death! haha

Re: The biggest sellers getting banned

more variety to the buyer, better buyer options etc....Small sellers pay more in fees and have much less support.

Big sellers have extra rules to follow because one bad day can piss off hundred or thousands of ebay customers. I specifically mean, a big seller gets sick and ships late etc... Big seller has a problem and burns them for 100K in fees. Big seller has a problem and does not ship items for a few days can cause ebay tens of thousands of dollars in lost potential revenue and customer support, cases, etc....

They really want small sellers and GIANT companies. Just look at the new store options. $5 a month and thousands of dollars a month for enterprises.

Re: The biggest sellers getting banned

This is horse**it. I keep my eyes on some big Ebay sellers and their accounts are 10+ years old. One of them has been dominating his category for years now.

If you are a big seller who's moving weight and making thousands in $ in revenue, Ebay loves and adores you. They will never ever think about banning you unless you piss them really off.

Abso****inglutely it does make no sense. Ebay would kick a small seller out, not a big fat milking cow :coffee:

Well, you can read all about it in the wall street journal back in 2013. 4th quarter profits skyrocketed after 14,000 top 1% sellers were removed in august.

Ebay gets the sales no matter what. Remove the lowest paying sellers who keep profits low and profit goes up.

Your perspective is wrong. Big sellers cost ebay profit.

Sure.

But facts are facts. Like I said, you can read all about it in The Wall Street journal. Obama even made statements about it......

There must be a reason for them to ban you. They can't just ban you out of nothing and claim you are cutting their profits!

I still don't get your logic. The big seller I am watching for example is generating more than 80k transactions every month. How on earth is he damaging Ebay profits!!!

This is a conspiracy theory from people who got banned. Ebay is full of mega sellers who have been selling for years and their revenues are sky rocketing (humbly said btw).

I have read it many times on these forums that everyone who got banned deserved the ban and no body gets banned without warnings.

4 months back when I was calling Ebay customer support everyday raging about the Vero take down I was said the following:

"Listen, forget about relisting because that would result in a ban, which neither of us want".

So as you can see they didn't even want to ban a new seller who didn't really make a difference.

Ebay is at war with other e-commerce marketplaces and they are fighting to grow their base of trusted and well-doing sellers.

Back to your reference, if I learned one thing about newspapers and magazines is that they are full of ****. Who knows what was the incentive of the writer who's behind the article? And how on earth could someone figure out how many sellers got banned? We can't even figure out if our competitors in a specific category got banned or not!

Re: The biggest sellers getting banned

You guys are so naive... try pulling your hand out of a bucket of water and see how much of a hole is left - none.

Same thing is true with big sellers, small sellers, medium sellers... kill a few, or kill a few thousand, the hole instantly fills right back in.

EB doesn't care. They've got more sellers than they do buyers for the products.

They've always been this way, because this has always been true.

And some of these sellers were US - stealth - and will pop back up somewhere else, so it doesn't even represent a loss of product.

Re: The biggest sellers getting banned

LOL

Ebays published purge. They were mighty proud of it. That is EBAYS published numbers.

but we are beating a dead horse here. I could not care less if you believe this or not.

Here is how it gone. You got an EMAIL from SRS Department to call a regular number by 8pm. If you did not, they temporarily suspend your account. The next day you call into ebay and they have no idea what you are talking about and they never herd of the SRS department before(kinda like when they added selling limits to accounts years ago)

Then they tell you that is you pay the current ebay fees, that might work, so you arrange two 10K payments through paypal and the balance the following day. Then that does not work and you get an ebay message saying that you are temporarily suspended for 30 days while the SRS department reviews your 14,000 recent transactions. Then of course because you have no sales for 30 days but have cases, feeback, returns. coming in from the last 90 days you loose your top rated seller status and become below standard. Then they indefinitely suspend you and tell you to continue working with other ebay sellers....

At least that was my experience and pretty much identical to KB Toy store and literally thousands of others......

2013....like I said you can read all about it. Ebay was quite proud of purging sellers and making much more profit.

IN a way it makes sense too. The good thing is people from this forum are already used to spreading the sales over multiple accounts so if one ship goes down , the others are still there to feed them.
