Online Bank Suggestions?

I'm looking for another bank savings account, hopefully something I can open online today. Can anyone recommend a good service that may have 24/7 service, maybe even open today? I know options will be limited on the holiday but there has to be something.

Is it possible to open your online savings account and have it working, able to draw money out within a couple days? Or does that only work if you go into the branch? I already checked FNBO and they said it could take up to 10 days! I'm thinking 72 hours to w/d, open almost immediately for deposit.

Suggestions very much appreciated! :)

etrade has banking online checking and savings etrade.com

Thanks, but I don't think they're open unless they're having a late start. :( What's the turnaround time between opening the account and receiving all your materials to make the deposit?

Can anyone who has used E-Trade answer these questions?:

1) Can you do a transfer from savings at E-Trade to another bank overnight or same day for no fee, or is it just checking that offers that? Does it take time for each bank you add to be processed on your account or is it instant?

2) How long is the application process (after you've filled the application) before you receive your account information (to make the deposit)? Can you do all this in one day or is there a waiting period?

3) Does the minimum deposit have to be paid immediately or do you have a few days?

it takes like 5 to 7 business days to transfer but they give you an atm card so you can just make a withdrawl. you apply make the deposit and i got my stuff including my new shiny atm card within a week you make the 100 dollar deposit when you apply. im not sure about adding bank accts but im pretty sure that it would take a couple days since they do the min deposit thing to verify the acct.

Wait, I thought they had the instant transfer? Bank to bank in a day for free? And the page I'm looking at says $1 to open. Is this something different? All I want to start out is a standard savings with the 6.0%.

Ah my mistake. It was FNBO that had 6. Etrade has 5.05. I like E-trade better though because FNBO isn't nearby and they charge for transfers, ATM's etc. I guess the savings evens out but that will take a while. Isn't E-Trade FDIC too?

JackNoMore 09-03-2007 12:45 PM

But they do charge for bank-wire while E-trade doesn't. At least according to what I've read on them.

According to the e-trade faq page they don't. Which I agree, is surprising. That's what put them on my top picks to consider. Although I'm not quite clear yet if this is for all accounts, just some, or just checking and not savings. Customer service isn't open to check.

ING has great rates, mastercard debit card, no minimum, no fees, and can change address to anything you want (statements are paperless...)

I think I should make a General Discussion Thread for stuff like this.

JackNoMore 09-03-2007 04:02 PM

Might be a good idea Aspkin. The "lounge" tag on the ebay forum kind of makes it a catch all for every kind of discussion. But I'd welcome a "General Discussion" forum for just talking shop.

As for the charges, I wouldn't be sending anything into the account except Paypal/GCO deposits. Everything would be going out to my regular bank account, except of course the part I'm leaving for savings to mature.

anotherebayhater 09-03-2007 05:29 PM

aspkin can you add a search feature to so we dont ask the same questions over and over?

JackNoMore 09-03-2007 05:44 PM

There already is one. Third from the top right.
