eBay made me link my Paypal after only 10 items listed???

eBay made me link my Paypal account today after only after 10 items listed???

Is this a new policy ???

GreenBean 06-18-2009 07:44 PM

Depends on the category?

lakeman 06-18-2009 07:45 PM

Same thing happened to me last week.

GreenBean 06-18-2009 07:57 PM

^^^Any special category or over a range? :spy:

If this is happening, the parameters for creating accounts have changed. So let the forum know for helping others :peace:

ebaykilla 06-18-2009 08:22 PM

yes please let us know...this is a new one...hmmnn..please say what you were selling to trigger this and how much was the start price. what is the message exactly?

lakeman 06-18-2009 08:27 PM

For me it was on an account about 2 months old. I listed 5 cheap ebooks to get feedback. Then on my 2nd listing in the clothing category it required I link my paypal to list it.

GreenBean 06-18-2009 08:42 PM

^^^^BINGO. 'clothing category'. The first items had little consequence.
You upped the ante by listing clothing:spy:
Thoughts?

lakeman 06-18-2009 09:07 PM

Yea I agree. Has it always been required to have a linked paypal to sell clothing? I thought it was weird it asked to link once I tried to list the second item, not the first.

mefromfl 06-18-2009 09:49 PM

is it ok to have your stealth ebay link to ur stealth paypal? i have it link because my simon card don't work to verify ebay.

But when pay for fees i will pay with a credit card before the pull money from my paypal. is this ok?

Vicvelcro 06-18-2009 09:50 PM

For Lakeman, I'd say it was the clothes. Exclusive of anything else.

newbie!

Wanted to say hi all. I am a true newbie. Bought the book and read it two or three times in the last day or so. I am starting this next week on my first stealth account. I wanted to do it right the first time I guess. My question is in reference to the post. When I start selling next weekend I have a huge collection of 80's toys and a butt load of sportscards. What would be a good, safe, number of items I can list out of these the first round? Various different types of toys, probably 30 different categories I could list them in. 10,20,30? I can wait a bit to "cool off between rounds of listing 3 to 5 days between rounds. I will not be high volume but consistent 20 to 30 items a week easy. Most items would be $10 to $20 per item sold and an occasional $30 to $40 item. Risky or no? Help me out so I don't do something stupid.

yaw1800 06-18-2009 11:10 PM

Was it designer clothing?? I sell clothing and have not been asked to link any paypal.. that linking usually comes with strict VERO items (Lacoste, ysl in my experience) .. But as of right now 17 transactions and no paypal requirement

lakeman 06-18-2009 11:12 PM

Yes it was designer clothing.

GreenBean 06-18-2009 11:20 PM

^^^Then that has been in place since about last November (give or take)
Lyda will confirm that. 'Designer/high risk needs paypal.

Let me point out that ebay and the seller have a different interpretation of what the actual item is....very different :pout:

ETA paypal requirement for 'designer' clothing, electronics, high risk items including cell phones ipods etc been in place for at least 14 months Do your homework for future listings
& have paypal ready;) 6/19/2009

lakeman 06-18-2009 11:21 PM

Yea I realize that, I was just wondering why ebay waits until you list your second one to ask you to link.

limitthis 06-18-2009 11:26 PM

Maybe my question should go into a different thread. Any advice would be great though. If I offered to much info scold me please. PM me if you would like.
Thanks

GreenBean 06-18-2009 11:38 PM

^^^limmitts, you are fine . :yar: Welcome to the forum. We sometimes get busy. OK, a quick read of your question & my thoughts.
I go very slowly with my accounts & build up FB B4 I start to list. In 99% my accounts were over 30 days old B4 I listed items. I do understand (but don't agree) that people might not wait that long. So my advice would be to be fully verified with ebay/paypal. No way would I list more than 2 items at the start. The toys from the '80's might be problem. You will need to list them to show they are real. Sportscards is another go slow. Say you get FB of 4, then list 2. Build up slowly.
Now this is just what works for me. Others will add their thought.
I appreciate that you want to go carefully & what I have said is just my slant. If you have any questions feel free to send me a pm:peace:

Thanks Greenbean! I very much value your opinion. I would like to hear what some of the other vets have tried and were successful at. I was recently laid off and I have no choice but to get started as quickly as I can with a family of 5. I started my very first and only ebay and Paypal accounts 6 weeks ago. I had 4 + fb's and listed my first round of items for sale. I really screwed up a toy listing (didn't know this particular type of item had specific rules for what it resembles), they pulled it, I re-listed it properly and replied back with a harsh letter. I was good for 4 days and watched my items get bid up. The first round closed and I did well. I got 5 instant pp payments and was waiting on the others and I got an e-mail telling me I was limited. They even pulled my current auctions with only a few hours left with bids on them. I called pp and they told me my account was linked to another account and it had a balance owed and needed to be paid before they would release the money. I later found out that it was linked to my brothers bad account because he left them high and dry. Linked to me because we only live a few houses apart, have the same bank, and similar e-mail addy's. What a pain this is. I did the best thing I could have ever done the next day. I bought Ebay Stealth and would like to thank aspkin for his wonderful book. Thanks to everyone in the forums as well for all of the great info so rookies like me don't screw up the first time.
Sorry about the tirade but it really ticks me off!

Sorry for the late reply

Yes, category was clothing for me as well, account has 2 months on her, and I had a take down on one of my items while only selling 3 or so at a time, wasn't untill I reached the magic 10 that they required the link at my 11th item . . .
