eBay Linking Stealths From Same Device
 

Looking for some help/advice ...
eBay recently shut down my account, I called to ask why and they say I’m being linked to other accounts because I’m using the same device (Mac book). I create all new users on the Mac for each account ? The eBay rep named off 12 accounts I was linked to, which are mine and used on this computer, but different users for each??
Has anyone had this problem or know what is going on and how to fix it? Is it because I’m using a Mac and Macs have a Mac ID?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Something is linking you. Paypal, emails, banks, IP address, cookies, addresses.

Any of these crossover between accounts?

None of those, I’ve been running multiple stealths for 3-4 years now and my newest stealth was temp restricted. When I called in to see why, she told me I was linked to all the users on that MacBook. She listed the users and she was correct with the accts she listed off to me. This is the first time this has happened, in about 50
Accts over 3-4 year period. I did nothing different than before, but for some reason she saw it on her end. The system didn’t catch it, but a live rep was able to.
I then call in a 2nd time, and the next lady says there is no issue and opens the acct back up. I’m just wondering how the first rep was able to see it, and she specifically told me it was a link of using the same device (computer)... sooo confused

If that were the case we'd all be finished...

Do you have any eBay software on your computer?

Your web browser limits the amount of information websites are able to see about your device. Only way eBay can link your accounts if you have the above covered is browser fingerprinting. And I haven't see any evidence of that up to today.

Question - you said the rep noticed the link to 12 accts. Did she then shut all 12 down?

Using the same PP for more than 2 Ebay account will lead to your accounts suspension.

I think we all, as well as OP, know that.

Additionally, I believe OP has established it was not because of that. But we do still need more info from OP.

IF what OP says is true, this topic is actually very important for all of us.

OP, as aspkin has already said, I too do not think eBay has implemented browser fingerprinting for punitive measures. This leaves a question mark on your methods.
You said you separate user accounts. I presume cookies aren't suspect.


In the meantime, you might want to consider the following:

1. Do you sell the same items across all accounts (and do you use the same photos, description, etc.)?

2. Do you, or have you accidentally left your eBay tabs open before switching IPs?

3. What's your source of IPs and how do you prevent linking via IP?

4. Have you managed any of these accounts or associated messages from a central point?

There's a long list of what could be linking you. Many of us use a single computer to manage multiple accounts, and it's been alright so far.

That is why everyone should invest a bit into the business (you will get it all back) and get fresh ip and use VMware.... then there is no way no possible way eBay links you unless you do something very stupid.......
