Thieving sellers + mega dumb ebay

I see it all the time...
Phone priced at £17.99 (normal price of phone is £99.99 or something).

I used to be a good person and would spend time reporting.
ebay support will tell me: I am sitting in a comfortable chair and getting paid doing a sh*t job. Do I give a flying f***? I have taken note of your comments and will forward to the appropriate department - who will print out and use as toilet paper. Is there anything else I can help you with?

Done many times.
Done by calling and speaking to real people + countless times on chat.

1. How do these guys get away with it?

2. Why are ebay so dumb?

I dont worry about what other sellers are doing. I worry about the buyers trying to fleece me out of my hard earned money and time.

I do not have time to sit on the phone worrying about someone in china or india selling their items for -3747347% below retail.

I worry about my listings looking amazing and giving them quality products and top notch customer service :)

Don't call eBay customer support to report anything except for people who stole your pictures, titles...etc. You're literally wasting your and their time!

Try wasting that time on research and taking care of your accounts and business and see if that will bring any change to your life.

Dont worry about sellers who try to undercut you. eBay don't (always) place lower priced items at the top. Its often those who have a better reputation amongst their customers that make it to the top of search.

So you could be the one selling for £99.99, and be higher up the search ranks than someone selling for £17.99. Sure they will most likely sell more than you, but you'll still sell a fair amount, and given your higher profit mark up, you'll make more.

Hope that all made sense!

Why not spend your time and energy on your own sales? These people won't be making money if they keep undercutting you. Besides eBay won't do a thing about it.

PLus it's bad karma reporting others.

And I agree with what everyone here said, make a good history with your account, bring your rep up. People will see that you are more trustworthy and will pay more for it.

@SaiJin thanks for the wise words. Like other replies - all correct.

The only thing I was pointing out was that these specific sellers are STEALING from ebay and customers and ebay just don't care! They will sell something like 500 and not post and disappear with the money (I assume).

I was just wondering why ebay are so damn thick. If someone turns up and starts selling iphone x's for $100, people will go mad and buy. But ebay being thick ebay won't do ANYTHING.

I used to call ebay and report - this was a few years ago... slowly I learned how careless and uncaring ebay is.

They wouldn't let it slide that easily.

Selling an iPhone on a new eBay account will most definitely get it limited.

Receiving a large payment on a new PayPal will most definitely get it limited.

Trying to withdraw from a PayPal that's just sold a high risk/high value item, will most definitely throw up an error message.

Lets say it all slips through the net, and withdrawal goes through, PayPal will reverse the withdrawal out of the sellers bank account.

The list goes on. They will act upon it if they have reason to believe they will be at loss. In the very rare event they do lose out, they are a multi billion dollar company, they can write off such losses. For them its the equivalent to us dealing with item not received cases. Every business takes hits now and then, you just write off the losses and make sure its kept to a minimum.
