How do become an eBay Seller, and where do I buy my products from
 

I am an aspiring eBay pro seller. I would like to learn from the already-established sellers here how you started, and how you source cheap products directly from the wholesale suppliers. I stay in the USA.

Honestly, before you aspire to become a pro at anytime, start with the basics and build yourself up. You'll adapt and learn from mistakes.

If you try going zero to hero, you'll hit a brick wall in no time.

Are you already selling or are you completely new to this? hard to gauge by your post.

I am not entirely new to eBay. I have sold personal belongings like a book and a cellphone in the past. I have also been a buyer for several items so I kinda know how eBay functions.

I would like to turn eBay into a business, not just where I sell personal unwanted items. But to do this, I have to know where and how to be in contact with suppliers and to get a general education on how to approach eBay as a business.

You can find items to sell in shops, eBay itself, from wholesalers, all over the place really. But the key is to find the right item for the right price and that takes a lot of research

I second to OPs question.

There's an infinite amount of information on this forum about getting back to EB/PP but very scarce amount of help/guidance on how to select correct products and category to sell, which is a shame, since selecting a wrong product can cost you dearly in terms of financial as well as legal ramifications.

Probably because this is a forum ABOUT getting back on EB and PP, not a school of business.

Even so, most of us are willing to give the best advice we can when there's a question.

I think JamesNorth's advice is sound. Follow it and come back with specific issues.

Not entirely true; there's a business advice section here but it's dead :)

IMHO, most of the issues ppl are having are related in some way to the products they're selling.

Well, if you could direct me to where I could get the information I am seeking, that would be appreciated. I know most people here are seasoned business people, so it's not out-of-place if I seek business advice here too.

OP you are a little late into the game. Very few sellers (if any) here make any substantial profit on eBay anymore.

Do a google search of 'How to Be Successful Selling on eBay' or something of that nature. There are tons of books dedicated to helping people on this topic. I've even seen some listed on eBay as digital copies for .99

You will have to do the same for your merchandise and what to sell. Google, read, research and trial and error. No one here is going to tell you their secret sauce - we are potential competitors after all.

My general view on this matter is, stick to items without brands. If its branded, make sure there isn't a large stream of counterfeits being sold, that would then deem it high risk.

If you do these two things, you'll be good to go. Rarely do brands restrict sales of their merchandise on eBay, so that's not something you'd need to worry about much.
