ems deliveries?

just been told of my supplier in china that they are clamping down on people who 'avoid' customs charges, recently had a parcel returned because they checked contents and returned to sender as they didnt believe my parcel was just samples

anyone else hear of this or would it be a one off

oompaloompa 07-14-2009 04:09 AM

what is your supplier solution for this?

I dont see an obvious way round it in any case, I think it is a random thing they cant open all the boxes, you have to factor it in to your expenses.

Main advice is to have small as possble shipments.

One thing you may have to watch now though is that your suppliers return details have been noted and so further boxes may be opened.

aking 07-14-2009 02:23 PM

Nope, haven't heard or had problems with shipments. The last shipment came super fast!! Like 3-4 days!

What is happening is that (for parcels coming from Shanghai) the office responsible for inspections changed, so the new office has to show they are really working and getting things done so lots of parcels are being inspected. For various reasons they will hold the parcels for several days and then return them.
Everything should go back to normal soon.

dburnside 07-20-2009 01:39 PM

yea think its back to normal now although them holding my items for 2 weeks could cost me my account with all the neg feedback i got cuz of delays

upsidedown 07-20-2009 08:06 PM

Just had quite a few from shanghai recently with no delays- either I'm lucky or my supplier's good- I think it may have been a little of both but before you start ordering make sure your supplier is able to get packages out quickly and has good shipping agency contacts

mad_bargains 07-21-2009 05:33 PM

i had a product returned once but my supplier just shipped another one out straight away as he was only gonna get the original product back anyway...

JohnnyBoy 07-22-2009 06:19 PM

I've noticed EMS taking alot longer to ship out of china. A couple packages took a week for the tracking number to say it has left china.

aking 07-22-2009 09:44 PM

yea i learned real fast not to list until tracking showed it cleared customs.

imhungry114 07-23-2009 10:39 PM

My first stealth account has 93% poisitive feedback because I didn't for a package to clear customs, oops I guess:doh:. I can definitely tell the low feedback score hurts sales on that account. The same item can sell for around 25% more on my other accounts at anytime during the day.

divine422 07-25-2009 02:23 AM

Best thing is to ship smaller packages and make sure your supplier uses different company names on the return and invoices.

biglouis999 07-25-2009 02:57 AM

Never list product until its in your hands is the best solution!

viking23 07-25-2009 08:36 PM

So I guess most of you arent dropshipping direct to the customer.
Unfortunatly I have to because the shipping cost here in Peru is about $25 a kilo.
And takes at least 7-10 days to arrive.
Wish I could find another solution, cause I'd rather buy in bulk and ship to the customer myself.

With my hat on as a buyer if I order product from a UK seller and I know its being dropshipped from say China then I will allow a reasonable time for it to arrive because I ship international myself.

But what really pizzes me off is when I search for a "UK supplier" when I have the option of going direct to an Asian one - and the UK supplier is secretly dropshipping - they dont have the product in hand. I dont think thats being honest with your customers because there are all kinds of hazzards.

Not only could the package be delayed but it can attract import duty which the unsuspecting buyer then has to pay. And all along they thought they were ordering product from their own country. Well you can understand buyers getting mad and leaving negs when that happens.

This happened to me over a laptop battery. I could have ordered it direct from a Chinese seller and got it in 4 days marked as a gift - which is what eventually happened. Instead the (UK) seller messed me about for 3 weeks using an inefficient dropshipper and kept telling me product was shipped. It never was. No prizes for guessing that I negged his a$$.

Ive been noticing BIG TIME delays and nothing but trouble shipping though EMS/China.I usually get my orders in no more than 2 weeks.I just checked on a order yesterday that i ordered on the 7th and found out that its sitting in Atlanta as Dead Mail(package cant be delivered).I have another order thats been sitting in Chicago customs since the 12th.I expecting the Homeland Security letter any day now......Plus the sellers on DHGATE usually take a couple of days to send out the orders, now there taking a week....This is starting to really irritate me.:mad2:

GreenBean 07-28-2009 05:33 PM

^^^Start thinking about the end of the year NOW. It will be much worse with delivery of items. Do your preparations and have the stock. ebay loves the silly season to suspend accounts.
Be prepared:fight:

Good idea.I definitely wanna be stocked up for the day after Thanksgiving.Ill probably order a month ahead of time to be safe.

GreenBean 07-28-2009 06:52 PM

:cheer: Way to go. That day after Thanksgiving can be a boomer :cheer:

Have 2 different suppliers for each of your main items. Order half from each supplier. The packages will be smaller, which is a plus. If one package gets held, chances are that the other will get through (you'll at least have some goods to work with).

Try to avoid your goods going out of Shanghai and/or coming in through San Francisco.

Tell your suppliers to STOP writing GIFT on the paperwork. Customs knows better. They aren't geniuses for sure, but they at least know their job and they aren't complete morons.

Using SAMPLE on the package won't work for 200 units. It works reasonably well for 10 units.

Also, if your supplier breaks the order into several smaller packages, make sure they don't take all the packages at the same time. Send a few in the morning and a few in the evening or the next morning.

why would you be getting a letter from HS?

inleague2003 07-29-2009 01:06 AM

You get the Homeland security/Border protection letter if customs seizes your order and says its counterfeit. The letter says that you have like 2 weeks to appeal or you will forfeit your package to the U.S....The cool thing is that all you have to do is open a dispute with DHgate/China and say that your order was seized because it was counterfeit and you will get your money back.Just be careful when reordering to not order from the same person. The last thing you want is for them to send you a box full of rocks.
