Writing on pictures, anything to worry about?

I see a lot of sellers having pictures with writing on them. As most buyers are buying using their smartphones and thus not reading item's description sometimes, I am thinking about making a special picture with the description printed on it.

Do you think this will bring me trouble in case other sellers report it to eBay?

I think adding writings on the photos makes sense .

Last year I called eBay and was accidentally connected with the department responsible about listings rules or something, the rep told me that texts on pictures are not allowed!! I was like WTF is this man on?! I see hundreds of listings with text printed on them and they sell like insane.

Anyway, I am gonna give it a try and see what happens. :violin:

Just don't write phone number or e-mail to solicit off-ebay sales....true many pictures might pass but if you get reviewed, it's potentially bad news

You mean if I get reviewed and the picture have contact info on them will be bad news? Or just text in general?

On some of my listings (especially for more expensive/costly items) I always display my userrname on pictures. Never had a problem, as it prevents others from stealing my photos which I have had happen in the past.

Also there is no question that buyers with smartphones are not looking at your full listing. Very often they only see the item pictures, price, etc, but they care little about your feedback or full description.

This is probably why the account with my worst feedback is also my selling account. I have yet to be questioned by a buyer about the feedback, nor do they seem to care.

THey implemented the no text on photos many years ago actually.
My suggestion is just to take a pro grade photo and put th edescription where they belong.

You don't want to risk an account for something minor like this, specially when the account is making money

^^I agree

Not because of the "breaking the rules" aspect. Because your listings will do a lot better without text in pictures.

Putting your username as a watermark is one thing. I tried putting the entire title + part of the description in Photoshopped listing photos years ago and those listings did terribly compared to listings for the same item without text in the photos.

I never had a listing pulled for rule breaking, but I never got many sales either using that technique.

Because you are indeed correct that most buyers are lazy enough to read descriptions and might end up filing SNAD cases because the item is not something that they expected it to be. It will still rule on your favor though, but the hassle in responding to such cases is too much. You can go ahead and do it, I've done that to some of my listings though inside and outside of eBay.

lol did you just say they will still rule in his favor? You must be new to ebay.
