Ebay wants me to ship the item, while payment is held by Paypal
 

I'm not sure should I post it here or on Paypal board, but anyways.

Recently I sold an item on Ebay, but the payment was immediately held by Paypal. The reason is: "You have received a payment that we believe may not have been authorised by the PayPal account holder".

They recommend me to not ship the item until investigation is complete. So I didn't and I'm waiting for their decision.

It's been 4 days already, but the payment is still on hold. However on Ebay it is marked as "received" and I'm basically postponing the shipping in Ebay's eyes.

I was wondering what should I do here?

There is an option on Ebay "mark is as payment not received", but I'm not sure that it would be the right thing to do.

Asking for an advise from someone who have dealt with similar cases in the past.

+1, or if you have enough transactions to cover the "maybe defect", wait and see what happens. could be just someone who paid while travelling

But cancelling the sale would affect my seller account, wouldn't it?

Also, since the funds are held in my PP account and the case is open, would Paypal let me refund the actual amount it put hold on?

yes after cancelling the transaction you should be able to have a refund sent and communicate with the buyer to see what they say,



if i was you, and had enough to cover the maybe effect, as previously stated, i would ship

Hmmm.... when I had something like this happen, I just wait it out.
But I'll also message the ebayer about this and see what they say.

usually the payment got authorized by paypal and the buyer is fine with a little delay in shipment.

i have seen a lot, maybe 30% of all sales wih the message "waiting for authorisation" in germany before i activated "instant payment" in paypal.
but it never said something about "maybe fraudulent"

For the cancellation, choose "problem with buyers address" but contact them anyway to tell them that paypal had a problem and that they shall buy again if they still want it

Refunding thru paypal doesn't cause any defects on your ebay account. The buyer will get an 'item awaiting payment' notification but rarely do they care. Little known secret :thumb:

A couple of quick points:

- There is no Refund button for this transaction. It says that a dispute accosiated with this transaction is open and I have to visit Resolution center to see details. In the Resolution center this case is in "under review" status and I don't have any options there.

- I messaged the buyer explaining why I still haven't shipped the item. He replied "Maybe you need to ship with a tracking". That's it.

- Looking through buyers feedback (he has about 50, but most of them 2-3 years old) I can see that he had the same issue past month. He left a negative feedback for a seller and seller replied to this claiming that the payment was reversed by Paypal due to unauthorised card access.

I think I will just wait it out, as SaiJin suggested, but I would appreciate your opinions on this. thanks

Haha really? Can't just opt out of a transaction until they're done deciding if it's authorized? Efficiency at its best.

never ever ship item, when payment is under review, because payment can be reversed and you will loose your item
if payment is under review, buyer will be informed from paypal about delay in delivery

I had this happen 6 days ago I refunded buyers while I could - was advised by eBay even not to ship- communicate with buyers let them know - I still have scam buyers claiming they didn’t get refund but o saved all proofs of refunds - called eBay to save my ass too - don’t ship scammers will take item at your dime to ship and file item not received - PayPal wants u to ship but they won’t give you your money for 180 days

I would Cancel the sale and refund the payment leave a not why as to what paypal stated to you

A quick update on the case:

it took 2 weeks for Paypal to 'investigate' the case. The payment has finally been reversed.

I still don't know what to do on Ebay, tho. It shows that the payment has been refunded, but I'm afraid they would still count their fees on the sale.

could someone advice here?

Contact ebay and tell them that you want your fees reversed for a sale not completed.

just write them a message.
no real experience with US, but in germany i call in and in 5 minutes all my problems are resoved :)

ebay is not that keen on some $ fees that they wouldn't happily refund you.
It would be against their own TOS so they will give you the reund no problem, just be nice and explain it friendly
