Trouble selling

I am having a very hard time selling start up items to stabilise my account. Whenever I list items it gets like 3-4 views Within a week, however only my old account it would get about 100 a day. Any help?

Re: Trouble selling

as new seller, you are low man on the totem pole, the way they rank the seller and the item is rather complex.
New seller does get a honeymoon period ,then if shopper looks and do not buy or no one even look at them, the listing gets rotated further and further back, you figure most buyers do not wade thru more than 1-3 pages, items could sit for years unsold.
take better pictures, lower your price, offer free shipping, encourage buyer to make offer, tyr to buildup your feedback.
some buyers are leary buying from someone with low feedback, negative feedback, slow to ship

Like agent said same problem it’s because your new sell good stuff cheaper then everyone going to take a loss probably but it’s worth it to build the account up

For selling new items; I usually like a stategy of a high quality listing (title, photos, description) with an extremely aggresive price. Once it reaches, 1st page, raise the price, and keep on auto-pilot from then on ;)

Re: Trouble selling

It's long been proven that one of the main things that eBay search (called Cassini) ranks based on the sales conversion rate.

The conversion is the number of people who viewed your listing then ACTUALLY bought your item. This metric is crucial to your ranking.

If you are not selling that many items, you are likely going to be pushed further and further down the list.

eBay only makes money then things sell, and the items buyers want are featured on the first page.

If I’m building up a new account I also use the promoted listing option and once I factor in all my fees etc I sell the first 20ish items at cost

This is a tactic used by many Chinese sellers to get to a featured position quickly.

Not exactly my strategy, but it works for some. Just have a sound plan and know what your costs are before you start. There is no point selling a ton of stuff at cost, paying fees/postage, and then carrying over a loss when you don't have a way to recover it later.

When I say at cost I mean cost plus fees and postage so I break even on every order (only at the start)

Only for the initial 10 sales

Re: Trouble selling

It's not working for free. It's working a plan. I personally have lost a few dollars on my initial
10 listings often. Not much but just enough to make item sell faster and get a few geniune positive feedback.
Example: hot selling item in store for $20, I purchase and sell for $3-$4 loss. I may lose $40-$50 on 10 listings when adding fees but I don't call it a loss. I call it Cost of starting a new business.
Ebay or any business is really not about how much you can sell but, more about how much you can afford to loose and still make a decent profit.
This is why sourcing items that have at least a 300‰ markup is very important. The higher your markup the easier it is to run your business and eat the returns and refunds that will come.

If my items only had a 300% mark up I would quit selling them. I have a minimum of a 800% mark up, with most having 1000%
