Computer sellers

Someone of you selling a heavy 40LBS desktop, how do you do it?

I have a Mac Pro desktop, the old one that's completely decked out that I wanna sell, but I'm thinking of doing local pick up only for eBay and pay by cash.

Re: Computer sellers

I've sent a car engine in the UK for less than £40.

So a computer is a non issue.

Re: Computer sellers

I'm more afraid of damages during shipment and scams.

Re: Computer sellers

There was a time Fed Exp/UPS would not cover damage if it is not shipped in original carton, better check it out first.
USPS claim can be a big pain as well.

Re: Computer sellers

Pain in the butt, but you can take pictures of the OS running with the hardware specs. Taking pictures of the serial numbers is wise too. Or it was, dont see as many people doing it now.

Edit: newegg will deny RMAs if serials dont match. Damaging a PC case is fairly difficult if the guts are secured fine.

Re: Computer sellers

Ebay no longer rely on pictures,as it has never seen the item, pictures can come from another computer.
there are gold sellers who take pictures of an open box of gold bars with the USPS postal clerk, before sealing to show they have shipped gold, not rocks .

Always playing devil's advocate :P

If your account has a good selling track record I'd wager they'd side with you instead of a buyer with less than 50 feedback.

Re: Computer sellers

Why not Craigslist ?

Ebay Money back guarantee is good for 30 days, many ebay members have multiple accounts, some for buying, some for selling, some for browsing and some for mischief .
One hear often some seller claims they have tested the device=printer,pc,etc before listing and pack it damn well, but what is meant by testing,?
turn on a switch, type something on keyboard, print a page?as for packing, without original carton and all that trimmings, the carrier could drop it from the truck,or old item could have loose parts, old is old,not brand new.
I would list as local pickup, and ask for cash.
if she loses the dispute, she would lose her shipping both ways

Meh, I think you assume too many buyers are scammers. To turn the investment around quickly I'd put on ebay.

OP concern is damage, damaged electronics vs damaged engine

Flat rate freight. It's the best shipping method for heavy items.

Im in this industry- shipping will be expensive so leverage it in your cost. FedEx will package and ship but they will charge easy 100+
Do ebay+ local pickup + craigslist for faster sale
And don't worry about scammers, a reputable professional setup on ebay is unlikely to encounter fraud

I have sold 2k computers on Ebay hassle free. Don't listen to the naysayers

Best of luck

Re: Computer sellers

sell it under a category for scraps and parts, there is no item not as described dispute.
Some sellers sell working electronics under that category to avoid returns and some buyers do shop for working electronics in that category,

not everyone is as good as you are when it comes to selling electronic goods, they sell whatever they have found or their own /
I bought a used HP printer from someone on Ebay, although she removed the ink cartridge, there is still some ink in the printer, when I open the package, the ink was on the printer, the bubble wrap, my hands and clothes and floor.
It is just too messy to take it out of the carton to find out if it works or not,so I have it return at her expense.
She lost shipping both ways $37 x 2=$74
I see she relisted the item.
there are also sellers who sell Sony Boombox which play with Ipod, iphone but they dont have Ipod,so they test it with their iphone and sold it to someone who wants to use it with ipod,or it works when plugged into electric outlet but they dont have batteries to see if it works with battery.
They lost money paying for shipping both ways $25 x2 =$50
You maynot want to hear it,but it happens every day on Ebay

Sure does.. smart ones avoid those return issues by properly testing or like originally stated, selling BRAND NEW.
