Passwords

Is there anyway eBay and PayPal can see your passwords? And keeping the same passwords for all accounts is it risky?

Personally I don't believe it does, although i still insist on different passwords everytime....

Opinions?

I would say there is no question Paypal and Ebay would have access to your passwords for their accounts.

I use random combinations for all my stealth accounts. I reckon using the same password every time would be one strike towards account linking.

Yeah, its best to be careful, just annoying trying to remember everything without writing it down!

excel spreadsheets!

All the passwords get encrypted. Just think someone hacking into the system and they have the passwords and also prevents employees from possibly finding the passwords.

But definitely encrypted and only a few at the top end would know.

Also because all the passwords are encrypted, the system can detect if it is a strong or weak password (sometimes they email to tell you to change the password) but if you use the same password not sure if it will get you suspended as the encrypted code would be the same. I don't think we will ever find out.

There have been reports from users quite some time ago that the use of the same password contributed to suspension by way of linking.
I understand what you are saying about encryption. But because the forum encourages 'stealth', it is not that suitable to use the same password.:peace:

This is an absolute must. Place ALL info in it (the stealth book has a screenshot of the template aspkin must use), secret questions and answers, password, Date of birth, bank account, etc...

Not only will this allow you to track all your accounts and avoid mistakes, but if eBAY drop a call on you to verify your information, you`ll have a simple file to open to get it all.

All you have to do is a backup on at least another HD in case the main one fails (losing this spreadsheet would be a disaster for me, all info lost... forever) and encrypt the file (128bit will do) so if you were ever hacked or someone opened the file by mistake, they couldn't... they'd need a password.

After that you're off to a great start!

To get even safer, in case a fire, burglar, tornado, flood, WWIII(just kidding) or any disaster happens to your home, you still probably lose everything if both HDs are at the same place. I back up every important things on a remote server everyday by running a script also keep a copy on a hard drive at a different address location pretty much everyday.

well I expect if my house burned my ebay account info wouldnt be the first thing on my worry list, but you have a good point :bounce:

philly387 08-17-2009 02:08 AM

Well...my last 3 ebay/pp accounts have all used the same passwords. And I have not been linked to any of them. Just my experience. But best to be safe as well...I just like taking risks ;)

TigerLord 08-17-2009 02:22 AM

well master Yoda, seeing as how you have the force on your side, we might not all have your luck ;)

vetus 08-17-2009 06:40 AM

I use the same passwords on my ebay and pp accounts, never had a problem.

Vicvelcro 08-17-2009 06:47 AM

My guess is that *IF* you are placed under the microscope for other reasons, but they are on the fence about a user - they screen against everything including password matching. Otherwise, under normal ebay @defcon 3, the P-Onz don't have high enough access to check passwords. @defcon5, T&S probably can and does check.
