Re: 13 States added to Mandatory Ebay Sales Tax on July 1st
They would be unwise to do that. Brick and mortar stores don't come close to matching the variety/value of things online. 80% of what I buy I wouldn't even think of looking in a retail store for because if they do have it, the price is 300% higher. :P
I hate taxes just as much as the next guy and personally don't believe any taxes should exist. They're nothing but legalized extortion. But what are you gonna do...

Agree wholeheartedly. The variety bit usually leads to good educated purchases that can mean longer lifespans (better quality for the money) and less going back to the store to replace it in 2, 3, 5 yrs.
NBD on taxes... everyone has to pay (or eventually will), they'll still (and have been) paying the 'tax premium' for the convenience of buying online then at the door in 2-5 days.

This does impact sellers. You will see fewer sales for sure. No sales tax is a huge reason I ever buy on eBay. It was one of the last sites to have no tax.

Well when you price your items close to what retail store charges and they save the 7-8% sales tax, they save 7-8%, now they will not save any. Simple math, might not hurt a lot, but will hurt sales to some extent.

It depends on what they are buying.
tax or no tax,an estate 14K gold bangle of the same weight could cost you 50% less if you buy on EBay than DEPT store which would be brand new.
But I would buy electronics in store and take it home with me.
