eBay rep literally advised me to "stealth"

I had a pretty good business account linked to my business paypal i'd used since 2014, all was good until they requested invoices and receipts for selling high value items ( I had done this before with no issues) I provided some "receipts" from Amazon I purchased but they denied them, so I was permanently banned from selling. This was back in March. Today I called them to see if i could be reinstated and the rep put me on hold for 10 min while she contacted the sellers dept and said that sadly i can't sell again. But they had advised her that I could sell again just make a new account with new name and email and a new PayPal account

I laughed, even they know stealthing is a common thing with eBay sellers, they know a lot of those people they ban can simply re join under a different alias and sell that way,

Yeah, these reps will say anything just to get you off the phone. I had reps telling me to sell on other sites, sell local on Craiglist, etc. It was very strange.

I can imagine, but just seemed strange they would literally tell me to sell using a different name. Doesn’t that just defeat the purpose of banning me from selling?

“You can sell just change your name! ;)”

I hope y'all dont really think that ebay doe not know about stealth. We have know ebay people as agents here. We most likely have executives that work for ebay and paypal. I mean, just googling how to get back on ebay finds a handful of sites like this.

I have no doubt that’s the case, just found it funny she would tell me I can still sell but under a different identity, it was hard for me not laugh on the phone and tell her that.

There are a number of reasons why ebay would suggest you make a new account.

In the UK any account approaching 85k, HMRC makes ebay responsible to get the seller to become VAT registered or to lock their account.

It is to ebays benefit if that seller scraps that account and just creates another one ...

They can continue making money off them without having to penalize them.

That's just one reason. Fairly sure there are plenty more, all to do with their statistics and targets.

People are missing the point. If course they know about stealth. But, for an eBay agent to recommend that you do that makes no sense

Sounds like a really chill rep who doesn't really care.

That's good heh

The rep wasn't from states by the way, she had a heavy accent, my guess somewhere in Asia. Not sure if that matters at all but she wasn't American

it could be the seller dept told her because she is an Ebay employee, but does not expect her to pass on the information to you.
you know just having a different email address is not going to stop them from finding out
