eBay managed payments starting to be forced through by October

Received email/eBay message yesterday saying I was “selected” to opt-in by October or lose the ability to list new items. For some sellers, it’s no longer optional apparently.

Still seems to be so much confusion around this new payment system. Also really disgusting eBay would be forcing it when it does not even work with stuff like GSP yet. WTF

I know many on here have dreams of this still being years away but that does not look to be the case, at least for the USA. I would guess everyone is moved over by the end of 2020.

Do you use GSP? International buyers always tell me they don't like it, and that they'd rather buy from the listing directly with international shipping.

They sent an email last month saying it would start becoming mandatory by the end of this year so this isn't too surprising.

I wish I could tag sloker in this.

I like the way this is going but I am not selling accounts. It will be a learning curve and accounts are going to become quite expensive most likely. Easier than amazon but in line.

Yes I use GSP often. My buyers don't seem to mind and I won't ship to most places outside USA on my own.

Why do you "like" the way this is going?

In my opinion, it is like weeding a garden. Think of it this way, If you have a Sow Pig and that Sow has 20 piglets, those piglets will drain that pig right? She will lose body weight, she will lose muscle mass and recovery could be very long. Only the strongest and most aggressive piglets will do well. The rest will be smaller and lighter weight and be fighting for one another for the last drops of mothers milk.

Now imagine the same Sow having just 4 piglets. Those piglets are going to be very well fed. Those piglets are going to grow fast and possibly thrive. The sow will produce the same amount of milk but not be physically depleted. Her recovery if it is even needed at all will be full and rapid.

Ebay is the Sow and we are the Piglets. Unfortunately, in order to get things back to thriving, many piglets need to get slaughtered. I plan on being one of the Thriving.

And here's me thinking I was evil for holding that thought that the world population is out of control. If we could slaughter away until we're down to 1bn, I'd have better chances on eBay. But you've come up with something more sinister so I'm :humble:

On a more serious note, that' s going to be sad as many of our comrades will be affected.

Everybody will still be on a level playing field. Everybody that can currently run multiple accounts should be able to in the new system - it'll just require more dedication. So less serious sellers will be washed out. Which I'm sure eBay wants since they have one of the worst reputations among e-commerce platforms.

I am personally curious to see how you guys handle this in the USA when it is forced. Customer Services will be snowed under with calls from worried sellers.

Is there an update to when we can expect this *forced* in the UK?

August 2020 or beyond?

Sure you'd have less sellers to compete with. You'd also have just as many less buyers to deal with. Depending on who you kill off, you could have even LESS ebay buyers.

I HATE GSP, and I know many people that do as well. You're saying it's going to be mandatory???

YOU MEAN Ebay has its own eco system, buyers are sellers and sellers are buyers, round and round, the same stuff keeps getting recycled.
I do buy shipping supplies on Ebay.

GSP is not mandatory, but MP cannot handle GSP yet,so those sellers who use GSP would not be invited to join at this moment.
I know why buyers dislike GSP,because they are cheap, the have to pay the folks at GSP erlinger,Kentucky for their work, they have to prepaid customs, and shipping could be more.
See,with seller doing all the shipping, they may get lucky and do not have to pay customs.
Some items are better shipped GSP due to size limit.

Re: eBay managed payments starting to be forced through by October

GSP is good for the sellers, someone just shipped over $500 worth of silver overseas via GSP,all she has to do is ship to Erlinger ,Kentucky with tracking, her job is done.
The package arrive empty or the buyer claimed so and filed a police report, she gets to keep her sales proceeds and GSP insurance policy covered the loss.

I don't ship international period, but when I was testing GSP it's actually pretty nice.

I think it's good for the seller.

For rare coins and precious metals, I never ship outside the US or Canada.

I actually had more problems with buyers from France, Italy, and Spain than any others. Shipping there is just asking for trouble.

The new eBay accounts with Managed Payments seem more focused on USA buyers & sellers. Has anyone even been able to setup Managed Payments on a NON-US eBay account as of yet?

Oh, no, sorry. I should have been more clear. I was talking about managed payments in my 2nd paragraph. GSP isn't supported in MP yet.

Oh I know sellers are buyers. I buy most of what I sell, on ebay. That does not change the fact that the ratio of sellers to buyers, is YUUUGEE

What exactly are you talking about?

Is this to do with the eBay "immediate payment" glitch that you experienced before?
