Forced roll-out of eBay managed payments is beginning

https://old.reddit.com/r/Ebay/commen...aged_payments/

See the thread, looks like its happening.

To list items after October 22, 2019, you are required to register for managed payments eBay As a follow up to our previous email on August 22, 2019, your account is required to participate in managed payments. This is a reminder to sign up at ebay.com/paymentsregistration before October 22, 2019 so that you can continue to create new listings and avoid any interruption to your business. Based on our review of your account, the features and tools you use on eBay are fully compatible with this payments experience.

I wonder are new accounts still even given the option of PayPal? Anyone make any accounts lately?

Yes I have had new accounts being made the past 2 weeks and PayPal is still the option given. It is very annoying though. Requiring immediate payment on a new account is causing issues where the email used for PP is coming up as invalid. It is almost like they want us to want to ditch PayPal

I thought this was ⊗⊗⊗⊗ email from ebay as it is written as one rambling long paragraph. Very worried that I have to do this now. I thought I had a couple of years.

Opened accoutns yesterday - havnt seen anything about the Managed Payments platform.
Wondering if only established sellers are going to be asked at first.
Time will tell.

Is it only happening for US accounts?

Opened that link and read it.
At the moment it seems theyre only forcing the big time sellers to join it - as I suspected.

Re: Forced roll-out of eBay managed payments is beginning

According to Ebay rep, when EBay spun off Paypal, there is a clause which limited Ebay to transfer Ebay accounts out of Paypal,it has to be a gradual process, thats one reason why some of us have not been asked, but eventually we will all be using MP,not Paypal.
But grapevines also said Paypal is working on giving each Paypal acount its own routing and bank account,so we will be able to have our MP payments deposited in our Paypal account.
is it doable,we dont know yet?

That would be epic. I would not be at all surprised at Paypal attempting to do this.

That would mean they'll need a banking license wouldn't it? and THAT would mean they cant just limit accounts the way they do now. Don't know if they'll agree to giving up the virtually unlimited power they currently have over their customers' accounts/money.

My first thought was Paypal are thinking outside of the box. In other words they are trying to find a way of channeling funds back to them without going down the license route. But who knows?

I've been off eBay for a while and just came back... read a couple threads so far about this... is this new payment system going to ask for SSN and ID?

I had to provide my entire social security number. Only documents I have been notified to upload as of now is my bank statement. I have not had to provide any Id
My info is all my legal info and I guess since the social matched up to my name on eBay is enough for them to not request id.
I did meet the threshold for update bank jnfo this week. Had to upload bank statement
Also next threshold is 10000. Who knows what they may ask for then.
Has any managed payments sellers reached the 2nd threshold. If so. What did they request.
My first and many other managed payment sellers met first threshold at 4000.

Paypal offers a debit card which cost $4.95 a month and you can add money to it and linked to your Paypal account, moving money back and forth and it will also accept goverment deposits .
It is with Bankcorp Bank where Paypal just open one account and keep those who have this debit card as subaccounts ,itis FDIC insured.

Then you can also move some of that money to a savings account with the same bank.
So it could be possible Paypal will do something similar with Ebay MP.
There are some Ebay sellers who either do not have a bank account or do not want their sales proceeds to be deposited into their bank account, they want to keep it in their Paypal account .

Why would you want to add another mess to a nearly perfect system of having your funds deposited daily into a checking account?

I am an extremely active buyer on eBay (20+ items per day) and there is a different checkout for sellers with managed payments. I see only some very established sellers have managed payments. Most 90%+ it is normal checkout process.

This happened to my old account (AUS). I tried to list an item after a while and ebay said pp is invalid...

From my main buying account, it directs to the new checkout page regardless. It's the same one you see from the "one time payment" link for fees.

Lets just see what happens. I would rather see Paypal handling our cash than EBay.

I hate paypal. I never want them near my money. All but three accounts I have are on managed payments. ZERO issues. Paypal always has issues. I moved all my wholesale business except for two customers who only buy 15-20k a year to Stripe. **** Paypal.

Those being the key words.

I don't really sell much on there anymore. No more of the 300 orders-per-day kind of days. Different business model.

Some days/weeks/months I don't sell anything. Sometimes I take a notion and sell a few things on there.

With either run you still run the risk. MP requires full social so that will eliminate a $hi+ load of problems.

its ok, I will use my social to open many real accounts with ebay.

I sell more on it than any seller here that stays under the 1099 limit. And they seem to be getting the emails like clockwork lol
