Marketing own business through my eBay business, OK?
 

As you may know I was planning on using the Amazon businesses of some friends of mine to market my own website. I was planning to do that via putting brochures and flyers inside the packages and that way I would be reaching directly to customers who probably will be interested in my website.

I had to take a step back with the Amazon thing because the risk outweighed the benefits (i.e: the loss of aged and well-doing Amazon accounts that are not mine).


How is it with eBay though? I want to put inserts in the packages I ship to my eBay customers and those inserts will be advertising my own website. My own website has nothing to do with my eBay business (totally different products).


What do you think? Is it risky to do? What if eBay finds out? :pop2:

Interesting idea.
Don't see how ebay would find out unless someone actively called them to notify them of it and I don't see too many people bothering to do that just for spite.
Try it with your less important accounts if you have any and see how it goes.

PEOPLE DO THIS ALL THE TIME,BUT FEW BOTHER TO CHECK OUT THE WEBSITE OR EVEN KEEP THE BROCHURE OR CARD.
Once I got a coupon for buying seafood,and the seller does not see seafood on Ebay

As I understood your main problem is that you don't know who your customers are and where to find them. In such a case, the promotional materials are no very efficient. One solution would be advertising your site on social media and another solution is to appeal to prospecting. Sales prospecting is an important stage when you want to sell a product or your services. It will help you to identify the customer profile. There are companies that can help you to target the customers, check for it.

well,you can always include infor of your website and a coupon say 10-15% discount.
Ebay does not care,

Great idea! I like it. I might put my own spin on it and borrow your idea if you don't mind.

If the products are different and have no relation to each other then your targeting the wrong customer base.

What is your website url and what products are you selling on eBay ?

I've done this for many years, and it works well, but only for items that have repeat customers. eBay does not care. You're not violating any policies.
