eBay restocking fee

Are we still allowed to charge our buyers restocking fees? I have it in my template. How do you guys deal with returns without taking a big loss? What settings should I use. I offer free returns currently. Do I need to change my return settings from free to not free to charge this? Can I just go ahead and charge this anyways?

What is the most sound business decisions for dealing with returns?

Thank you!

Re: eBay restocking fee

Hey tin, I do not see the option to issue a partial refund? When I click return details, all I see is a button to issue a "full refund." Do I need to do this manually in PayPal? while I do not charge restocking fee for defective merchandise, I do for buyers remorse. I plan issuing a partial refund with the restocking fee until the buyer complains to me, and then I will just give them a full refund. However, my default is going to be to still attempt to keep 20% of the sale and also as a means of deterring buyers from too many returns. Does this all sound kosher with eBay policy in 2019?

Thanks Tin for your input. Can any USA sellers chime in?

This refund seems to be bothering you quite a bit lol. IIRC, we can no longer charge a restocking fee. BUT... if the fee is going to bother you so badly, then just claim the product is a little damaged, or whatever, and deduct the fee amount from the full refund.

As long as you are TRS, or offer free returns, the above option should be available to you.

Ebay keeps tabs on this, though, so I wouldn't be doing it for every single return. They'll likely see the pattern.

Honestly its not worth it, the customer can escalate this to a case with eBay and if you lose, your account gets dinged.

Partial refunds are long known to piss quite a few buyers off, sadly.

IF you are TRS, or offer free refunds, you are immune to negative feedback when it comes to partial refunds on returns.

Read the phucking policy of the platform you sell on, damn.

Re: eBay restocking fee

If a buyer sees a restocking fee they will just open an item not as described case. If a buyer changes their mind they wont even want to pay return shipping.

All of the honest buyers left ebay 10 years ago, only trash buyers. Only lowlifes remain.
