How do money holds work when buyer opens a return?
 

I wonder how do the holds work when eBay buyer open a return request? Sometimes once the buyer opens a return request, a hold is placed in the paypal, to secure the funds required for the refund. In other cases, no hold is placed during the return process. How does it work?

if the dispute is open on Ebay,it is Ebay which places a hold on the payment.
If a dispute is open on Paypal,it is Paypal which does that,unless you have a Paypal FUNDNOW account,then no hold

I understand all this. But how to understand if my account will get holds if a return is opened? As usually once the ebay dispute is opened, hold is placed. But today I received a return request for a pretty large sum, but no hold on paypal...

Probably quite a few factors involved - that is odd given a large sum though...maybe your history on the account is good so the hold wasn't played?

The only thing that comes up is that the PayPal is limited, so maybe they don't put holds as they know that I won't be able to pull the money out anyway?

Ah the PP is limited - you didn't mention that....that would make 100% sense to me since you can't the money out...why put a hold on it....

I ask that because previously I always got holds in PayPal if a return request in ebay was opened, and it didn't matter if the paypal was limited or not.
