Less worse- cases or returns?

:pry:

OK, unfortunately I genuinely forgot to send an item. A case has opened and I have sent it now. However there's no tracking because I had to dropship it from Amazon (I was out of stock).

I can see that it has arrived but the buyer has left the case open.
I have sent the buyer messages asking if they have received it, and sorry etc etc, no reply.

Should I

A. let the case go to ebay

B. Issue a refund (v cheap item)

Which is a less worse mark on my account? (I have 1 return and 0 cases atm)

If it's cheap just refund. It's your fault after all

Yeh I don't care really, but is there a difference between losing a case and a refund?

Logically yes - case could look worse

Then all the Ebay sellers dropshipping from AMZN etc should be banned by now?
Some are legit, they are using AMZN FBA

if your tracking shows it has been delivered,Ebay will close the case in your favor.
Now if it finds out it is AMZN tracking, thats a different case what it would do to your account.
Even if your tracking shows it has not been delivered, then Ebay will look at the tracking movement,if it is making progress,Ebay will extend the date of delivery.
There is a long long thread on Ebay forum of a seller who sold commercial kitchen equipement,a few thousand dollars worth, and the freight company was running late ,once it past the delivery date as stated by Ebay on the item listing, the buyer open a case of INR.
Ebay sided with the buyer and refunded his money over a weekend, then the item was delivered on Monday.
Seller appealed thrice and denied thrice by Ebay and the buyer ignored her request for payment.
Everyone posted and cried how unfair Ebay is,that Ebay should reverse the payment,Ebay should not dictate on her listing when it should be delivered etc etc.
But some question if she lost he case over the weekend, and the item was delivered on Monday, she could always call the freight co and asked them to hold the item?
Finally Ebay rep chimed in and said Ebay has a policy,if tracking shows movement ,it will extend the delivery date and in her case, there is no further movment,so she lost.
Ebay also has a policy, once the case is closed,it is out of EBAY hands, and the buyer and seller have to work it out.
I sense that the seller is not a professional salesman employed by the store which sells used commercial equipments, she just took pictures and hope to make a few hundred dollars and ended up losing a few thousand dollars.
Calling the trucking company on the date of delivery is the best way ,all long distance hauling, the truck driver can be reached anywhere,of course if buyer refused to pay,she would end up losing money on roundtrip shipping cost.
so much for ranting, but it is good to know Ebay policy on tracking!

OP said buyer receIved the item, and CLOSED THE CASE.
eBAY will not be involved, there will be no defect so why should OP refund?
case is closed

if you know the buyer has received the item, you can call her and remind her to close the case, sometimes buyers are not aware they have to close the case!

Refund. Not only is an opened case going to damage your metrics, it might also reveal you're a dropshipper albeit an isolate case. The combination of the two could cost you your account.

Seems a refund is best. Does that count as a return or damage metrics too?

Still hoping buyer just closes case....

Ebay gave me until 27th November to resolve it, am I ok until then or can buyer escalate it before???

Re: Less worse- cases or returns?

Cases can obvious impact your account negatively.
High number of returns can also do it. I have lost more than a few stealths because of eBay citing the return ratio.

Even if you were to provide tracking, it was shipped late and usually eBay will side with buyer.

The best scene would have been you refunding the buyer in the beginning and not ship anything.

Thats what I hear, is that not true? Can I upload AMZN tracking to my ebay case? Doesnt seem a good idea if they review it and see..

Why would that have been better? So that I dont lose money and the item?

Was hoping that after they receive the item that they would close the case.. surely most people would do that?

Yeah I wouldn't, thanks for replying. :)

Its interested getting everyone's opinions on a thread, there will always some that say something is ok, and others that say, no its not.

Often on this forum it’s not a case of weighing up opinions but determining fact from fiction. The wrong choice can have dire consequences.

Thanks for the saturday chuckle :focus:

Make the decision OP - lots of info posted

It will be closed by eBay without resolution and this will be counted as a defected rate in your sellers dashboard. Not a good thing at all.

Issue a refund. Its better than cases with no seller resolution.
