Interesting. Free International wire transfers sounds really nice since I'm currently paying $45 every time. Might have to check these guys out. Hopefully they aren't like most e-banks that tend to have knee-jerk reactions to largeish transactions.

EDIT: This company has a lot of work to do. The main page says "free international wires" - the FAQ says "we charge nothing for incoming international wires". Beneficial to the international students they're advertising to, but not to me.

I wonder how they're getting around the patriot act SSN requirement. Their FAQ says funds are held by a partner bank so they're working similarly to Paypal.. except Paypal requires a tax ID before they'll give you a debit card.

from its website,this is not a bank,it just matches buyer and seller,so if you need 1000 yens and I have 1000 yens to sell,there is a match.
I am surprised Paypal does business with Transferwise,given the risk involved.

for small amount,you can use Western Union,it costs less than $45.

They banned me and my wife years ago, but we were paying about $80 per order in fees with WU because we had to keep each transfer under $3k in order to avoid giving an SSN. WU isn't meant for commercial transactions and they ban you once they catch on. :nono:

I don't really understand your other post but I don't think that's what they intend to do.

why dont you want to give WU your SSN?
I have been using them for small amount(under $100) a few times,once I have to cancel one transaction,then they called me and want to know why,since it is a Philipine call center,it is hard to understand what she is saying.
then they followed up with a letter,??

as for the other post,I picked up the information on Tranferwise website.
it said it matches buyer and seller and collect a fee,thats the reason they are cheaper

It would be interesting when they come live seems like its on the waitlist still
