| | | james_112233 | 02-18-2020 08:06 AM | Anybody else happy that they were banned ? It just got me thinking ...
I am actually glad I was banned from ebay otherwise I would have never forced myself to discover stealth and would have lived everyday in anxiety and panic wondering whether I could run my business and put food on the table.
Fast forward a year because of this forum and knowing for sure that I can get back on the platform to continue business is probably the best sense of security I have had in years ...
I would say even if you haven't been banned from ebay or paypal. Still take the time to learn stealth it's probably the best way to run your business and have a sense of control. Otherwise ebay/paypal control your business. |

I don't like to kiss up to people but without Aspkin's site I literally wouldn't be worth anything. Wouldn't own a house, wouldn't own our vehicles, kid wouldn't be in private school, and I'd be living in an apartment paying rent to some shady landlord. | Amazing :amen: |

We have been trained to think convenience is worth instability.
The new form of slavery is constant debt (car payment/lease, mortgage, etc). Get rid of those and your life changes. Your purpose for working changes. |

In any event, debt is relative. My idea of debt could be toe-curling to some and pocket money to others. | Ok, then what happens to the people that need those credit cards or payday loans? They use them out of desperation. You can't exactly teach people to sensibly manage their finances, which is why they got to that place in the first place. Once there, you can't teach them how to sensibly manage debt, to get out of where they ended up. I used to sell house financing during the bubble. I saw way too many people refinance at 110% house value, on the house that was already increased in price by twice, and what did they do? They bought cars and went on vacations. They didn't pay off debt. No matter how much I advised otherwise.
people are in poverty for a reason, and they aren't going to leave it anytime soon because payday loans and credit cards are removed. |

I think the point was you're never truly free with your things until you own your things outright. Because otherwise if you stop making your monthly payment you lose your things. You're forced to continue working in order to have a place to live. It really is just a modernized version of slavery. Plantation slaves were also forced to continue working for a place to live. Same same. Once you own your things you can do what you want with your money instead of endlessly stressing about monthly payments.
The alternative to a mortgage or financed vehicle is paying for them in cash and not owing anybody anything after that. It's such a lost concept in our debt-slavery society that it's not something that most people even consider as an option (as demonstrated in your post, tin). | I mean, try not paying your property taxes, or car registration/insurance, and lets see how much you actually own those things outright lol.
Personally, I'd rather take that $200k case, and invest it, while paying $1000 a month for the mortgage. Or sink the $200k into your house, and feel comfortable that you own a house. Until it floods. Until the roof collapses. Until until until. Use debt to your advantage.
I went with a friend to help her buy a car. she had the $30k cash to spend. I told her she should take their offer of 6 years 0% financing. But no, " debt is bad!!".
Fast forward to a month later. " oh no, you were right. I need $10,000 to fix an issue with the house, and I spent it all on the car".
When buying money is cheap, buy the money. Leverage debt. Cash is always king, and having it, while letting a bank take all the responsibility, is the way to go. |
| Pandoras_box | 02-18-2020 06:47 PM | Re: Anybody else happy that they were banned ? I've never been banned on my original accounts. On the contrary, eBay permitted me to sell on another account, only adding that I must not sell the same items on both accounts.
Like hell, I wanted to colonize my niche, so I stumbled on this forum and spawned many other accounts.
I've lost stealth accounts but thanks to this forum, there's always more.
This forum is the sole reason for the depth of my success selling on eBay, and I think that would be the same story for most of us.
I wish there were an easy way to give back something for the preservation of this forum. Perhaps a contribution button that allows us to voluntarily donate to a pot for maintenance of the forum, features and possibly research that will enable us to be prepared for whatever these marketplaces throw at us. I'd gladly support any such endeavour. |

Your purpose for working changes. | A house is not like a car,if there is problem with your car,you can take it to a repair shop and they can fix most problems,if they do not,say paint job, they can get a subcontractor.
With a house, the one who does your roof, does not do backyard fence, plumbers are no electricians, termites and ants control, lawn mower, painters do not remove carpets or do drywall,A/C,water heater, windows, some can be quite expensive. |

I understand the property tax example and I mention that pretty often in arguments like this, but honestly $300/yr in extortion payments (taxes) to Uncle Sam is nothing compared to $1k/mo to Fannie Mae or $1.2k/mo to shady landlord guy. I'm self-employed and could randomly have my income yanked out from under me any day. I don't want to owe anybody money for anything, so I save until I can afford things I want. | $300???? lol where the hell do you live! |

He criticized renting, then goes on to bash a mortgage. |
| agent006140 | 02-18-2020 09:14 PM | Re: Anybody else happy that they were banned ? $2837 is low,it was $3700 back in 2003 when the house was built .
whether you rent or buy with a mortgage, you still have monthly payment, unless you pay cash for the house. |

Re: Anybody else happy that they were banned ? Yes being banned from Ebay is a marvellous thing, historically my best work i've ever done has been when my back has been to the wall. Over a decade ago I started scouring the internet to look for solutions and came across this forum |

Bit of a contradiction there, I don't see debt as a burden certainly not a mortgage. What's the alternative, you're not keen on renting either?????
Our cars give us a means to get to work, the freedom to travel. Do you want us to rely on the bus?
Sorry, a mortgage and a reliable car is the opposite to slavery in my books. | You should not be buying cars you cannot afford. If you cant pay it cash (or in one shot) then you should really look at the want vs need in that purchase. Don't get me wrong, we bought a new car last year. But we paid it off within the first month.
If you don't think that paying double the cost of a house in a mortgage is slavery then we have different ideas. The goal is not to owe money. period. Do i have a mortgage? Yes. Will i pay it off much earlier than 30 years? God willing it will be paid off by the end of 2022. | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 12:45 PM. | |
