Is running multiple Ebay stores better?
I run and operate 1 store. I just buy and resell whatever will make money.
But I've read a lot about people running multiple shops. Is it better? Do they post duplicate listings to get more search results?

Always better to spread the risk but avoid duplicate listings....tweak/change them...make them look unique

Ebay rotates our listings,so having multiple stores may not be a bad idea

Reasons why it's better to have multiple active stores:

1) Redundancy - You can lose your primary selling account at any time to no fault of your own. Sometimes all it takes for you to be restricted is one buyer who's either mad or trying to take advantage of you
2) Visibility - It's not usually the best idea to list exactly the same thing across multiple accounts (in my experience) but if you slightly vary your listings across your accounts, and make all listings look totally different/unique, you can substantially boost sales.
3) Taxes - In the US if you've setup your businesses correctly so that they all file their own income tax return, you can use multiple accounts to limit the profits you report on each, which can help you avoid going into higher tax brackets (It would be cheaper to profit $50k x 3, and pay taxes on $50k profit 3 separate times, compared to profiting $150k on 1 account and then having to pay 35%-40% of that amount in taxes)

There's several other reasons too.. those are just the major ones that come to mind first.

One may report the same expenses x3 !
What is the possibility all three would be audited by the same auditor?

Naturally you would need to either keep your expenses separate year round for the 3 companies, or divide your expenses up proportionally at tax time. :lol:

As long as profits > expenses, OP will be alright
