I would do at least a year of cheaper sales before trying anything like that, so you can build up some credibility for your account.

There's tons of expensive stuff like that listed in categories like "industrial supplies." Real estate and auto too but those transactions are handled differently.

Both of these guys accept Paypal. The first listing is from a seller with 126 feedback, the 2nd listing is from a guy with 9 feedback. (incredible!)

So it's something that's possible, and relatively common, among normal eBay sellers.

To each his own I suppose.

Recommended to build some history on your account before trying to sell this sort of stuff, or you can call ebay and ask them if you can sell it and tell them the value. Odds are they will take you through an authentication process

I mean, you can only send $10k per transaction. So I can't see how they can accept paypal.

ebaystealth and I had this discussion a week or so ago. I also swore the limit was $10k.. he was saying there must be a way because there are tons of sellers with listings over $10k who accept Paypal.

there are precious metal sellers who do not accept Paypal,they said so in their listing,I dont know how they get away with it,but it was 6 figures,may be they get clearing from Ebay.
if you have low feedback and list a 50K item and accept electronic payment,you will be scammed

It is not how the item is collected that matters, its the payment method.
Buyer can pay via Paypal, collect in person then open a case. Paypal will default to ask for tracking and would turn a blind eye to the fact that the buyer collected in person.

No serious business will expect to make six figures if you only sell to people within a small radius.

Except for laughs, that sort of footage would be useless. eBay and PayPal are not known to admit that sort of evidence in a dispute.

tho maybe a court would. If I was having a $50k return, it would be opened up AT the police station. Or have the return shipped directly to a lawyer.

I called Paypal once,on a $35K transaction,they said there is really no 10K LIMIT,if you call they will check and let you know,it is a case by case situation

It has happened ,Florida antique watch shop received an empty box,they checked the weight and called the police,open the box and filed a police report right in front of the police.
Ebay told them to refund in 3 days and take it up with Fed Exp

The watch is sold for $24k.
They did not insure the return,besides Fed Exp does not offer insurance,just indemnity-$100 for non jewelry ,$1k for jewlery

CTR's (and sometimes SAR's) are required for anything over $10k in a single blow, so that may be why you'd need approval first.

Types of paperwork that financial institutions are required to file with FinCen for any single transaction over $10k. CTR's are mandatory, SAR's are discretionary. Applies to deposits, withdrawals, spending, etc.
