Don't fall into the Promoted Listings trap.

eBay has set up a dirty trap for all sellers, it's called "Promoted Listings". Once a seller opts in, there is almost no way out :help:

You may see a pump in sales when you turn this devil on, but if you dare think about going back you sales will be cut dead :ballchain:

So you may say then what's the solution? I need sales and the top 5 spots are reserved for those who double-pay... The solution is very simple, operate your account as if the whole thing doesn't exist, you will still get a share of the cake. As a matter of fact your sales will only be slashed by a maximum of 30% compared to what they were before this whole nonsense.

The more sellers are willing to pay the mob-fee, the more intrusion and thuggish behavior they will invite down the road.

Sadly enough our governments are not functional, otherwise eBay and Amazon would be handed hefty fines for this anti-competitive and mafiosi conduct.

Promoted Listings = +30% Final Value Fee

Re: Don't fall into the Promoted Listings trap.

Like I said in the last thread.. works for me, even with the 20% trending rate in my category.

I really haven't been that upset about it. eBay doesn't do anything but they need to grow.. so what else can they do aside from find ways to extract more fees from sellers?

You still butt-hurt about this?!

It doesn't work for everyone, in every category. It works great for me, in a few of my categories. Top search result for like a buck.

If your profit margin is good and you want to outsell your competitors do it.

Why are you telling people don't do it? You don't like to make more money? Maybe your item is not working or your competitors are too strong for you.
I am testing the promoted listing for the first time this month and my listing are already performing good after 24h. With 3/5% I already got orders.

I've toggled this on and off for ages and I haven't experienced organic loss in traffic.

You can get traffic off it without having to pay all those fees. Just takes a little imagination and basic HTML knowledge. Certainly too greyhat for an open forum.

Because the more sellers are willing to pay up, the more greed they will invite upon them.

It started with only 2 positions on the top for promoted listings, now they are 5... what if 5 turns into 15 or even 20?

This thing is not in the interest of sellers at all, it's quite the opposite.

Promoted listings have turned a marketplace into a place of double fees!!

@walkingupwards - you need to play Ebays game. The promoted listings are great because you dont pay anything, unlike Etsy, until you make a sale. I hhave been using Promoted Listings for over a month and they have been great sales wise, and even for some promoted listings i wont go over 1% fee and i still get healthy sales.

I'm super curious what's meant by this. You using HTML in your titles to make your listings say "sponsored" when they aren't?

I'll have to do some messing around and see if I can find out wth you mean. :coffee:

That wouldn't increase his placement, though. So not really any benefit to it just SAYING sponsored. Right?
